Getting SKY twice...

Hi,
We signed up to SKY Digital in around 2000 - it was done in my sisters name
actually.

Sales guy called, only me and sister at home (me under 18 then and she was
over 18) - she didnt live in our house but sales guy says OK and signs her
up anyway.

All went well but now the Digibox is very slow and knackered. So I am
wondering if they will let us take up a new SKY offer (in my name) as a
brand new customer even tho we have the dish up?) - could i not just say my
sister doesnt live here anymore (diff surname form me etc)

If I called should I say we still have the original box/card - could say
previous owner sold it to me and now its knackered or should I just pretend
we only have the dish and its wire and have never had the box?

If not - what kind of price am I looking at to bet gettign a new box from
them with and without a new subscription?

Cheers

(Also, anyone know of any promos for new customers, particularly for SKY+?)

Try www.sky.com for details of their current promotions.

It should be possible to become a "New" customer as the previous account was
held by someone else.

Whooops. didnt mean to send this twice...

My advice is not to mention the word "sister"
Instead, use the phrase "the person who lived here before me left the dish
here"

Probably better to cancel and then subscribe under your name. Dont even
mention previous use.
For Sky+ at the moment I'm sure £99 has beeen mentioned here.

Has anyone considered that stunts like this might be why subscriptions
cost so much?

If someone wants a new box just because their old one is "a bit old"
then I think they should pick up the tab, rather than Sky and its
subscribers, don't you?

No, i think you'll find the reason why subscriptions cost so much is that
Sky is a monopoly.

Not really as it will be like i am a new subscriber to them (we are
currently off contract) so in effect they are screwing us over twice (last
account in sisters name but we paid the bills)

The cost of the DigiBox etc including Installation is paid for by the IDC
that each new customer signs, the IDC is provided by BT.

Make sure you use a different back account to have the direct debits taken
from, than the one used before.
