Sky refuse to take my money!!!!

Well, after a whole lot of investigation and hassle I finally decided to
call up Sky to order Sky+ and guess what, they won't sell it to me!

I called up a special number for a £299 Sky+ 160 deal and got as
far as giving them my credit card number (I hope they didn't debit
it anyway) when the sales rep started running through a list of things
and it would appear that one of the things they are told to do is to
check if the box is to be connected to a communal system and if
the answer is yes then they are presumeably trained to argue the
customer into submission with the fact that no communal systems
are compatible with Sky+.

I tried to explain that the communal system we spec-ed up and had
installed was definitely Sky+ compatible and that I had 2 independent
satellite feeds in my living room right now but he just kept insisting
that no communal system was compatible with Sky+ so I gave up and
am now trying to see if the installer of the communal system can get
me a Sky+ 160 box for the £299 price.

Has anyone else had this pig-ignorant response from Sky? How did
you get around it? Did you just keep calling different agents until one
was reasonable or did you need to escalate to a manager or other
department?

Tell them you don't have a communal system. If they have records of
the earlier order tell them you have now got a separate system
installed.

Yeah. That was my thought as well. Right now I'm waiting to see if the
installer of our communal system can give me the £299 offer and if they can
then I'll get them to do it since they need to visit to fix my second feed after
the lightning strike fried it. If they can't offer me the £299 then I'll just tell
Sky a white lie. I can't see the Sky installer minding, for them it's a real
result to turn up expecting to climb a ladder and change an LNB and run an
extra wire when all end up needing to do is plug in 4 cables.

I have Sky+ on a communal system here in our block, which has over 700
apartments. Refer your Sky bloke to www.scci.co.uk who installed it.

That's exactly who installed ours. They are who I'm talking to at the moment to
try to get them to match the £299 offer and come and do my install for me since
they need to come and fix the lightning damage anyway. Sky have told them
that they can't have Sky+ 160 boxes for another couple of weeks so they can't
give me a price yet. After all this time an extra week or so is no big deal and it
would push the payment over to my November credit card bill.

P.S. I think scci must be a good installer because the guy in our block who
arranged the install for us and chose them was very senior in Sky (on
the main board) so I'm sure he would have been in a good position to
choose a quality installer.

They are good, yes. Never had a problem.

Sounds like a load of old bollox. I guy I work with lives in a flat with
a communal dish system. His living room has two satellite points and he
has $ky+ installed, on subscription.

Good ol' $ky!

Oh, it is indeed a load of old ********. The customer services rep I got into
the argument with was just so obnoxious that I was pretty glad to end the
call. I dodn't know if their performance is measured at all based on sales but
if I do end up going back to Sky for the £299 offer then I'd much rather
have my sale credited to a more pleasant customer services rep.
