RE The Abyss,Midnight showing

If Sky are censoring movies,I will most definitely be getting rid.I watched
Lethal Weapon and they cut out one of the best bits too,in fact it was the
finest bit of acting Mel Gibson has ever done, the part were he put the gun
in his mouth when he tries to end it all.
If anyone else notices any cutting please post in here and I can tell the
pillock at Sky the reason I am kicking em into touch.

Sky don't censor films. The studios cut films in order to get a
specific rating (PG, 18, TV etc. etc.). If Sky happen to have a print
of a version that has been cut for rated release then that's what they
show. They probably don't even really know the difference, any more
than the studios do when they release DVDs.

What makes you think that there is only one pillock at Sky?

Its amazing. Britain has one of the most liberal TV enviroments in the
world, and people are still paranoid about 'censorship'. You'd think we live
in a police state by the way the anti censorship fanatics talk (and they
never stop talking about it - they seem to prefer that to actually watching
the movies).

Why is that in quotes? It IS censorship, no ifs or buts. Softening the
word doesn't change the fact, any more than the BBFC changing its name
from the British Board of Film Censorship to the British Board of Film
Classification didn't fool anyone into believing they were no longer
state Censors.

Thats the problem with the anti censorship fanatics (Im not talking about
you, just in general). They are so paranoid about it that they see no
distinction between TV, DVDs, and movies. You just proved my point by taking
about the BBFC when I was talking about television.

Actually as an adult watching an *encrypted* pay-TV channel, there is no
justification for not getting an uncut version of a movie. To hold this
opinion does not make me a "fanatic".

Im not disagreeing with you..but the fanatics complain about *everything*
that is 'censorship', even if its shown on a free to air channel, even if
its early in the evening.

And the very few 'cuts' that are imposed hardly makes Britain a police
state!

The current unsatisfactory situation is that even encrypted channels are
only allowed to broadcast the BBFC endorsed versions of movies, so if
they were cut for the cinema/DVD it will be cut also on TV. As
mentioned, C4 got into trouble for showing the uncut version of the
Abyss.

C4 is a free to air channel and should have higher standards than encrypted
channels.
