The Abyss, Midnight showing

I recorded the Abyss (midnight sky movies 2) last night using my new Sky+
box, at the point where the diver puts the Rat into the special underwater
breathing fluid, my picture changed to views outside the sub but the sound
kept playing what should have been on screen.
Was this a glitch with my new box or was it Sky inflicting some kind of
censorship on me? if it was censorship then how come they were happy to show
a crab crawling from a dead guys mouth ten minutes later.
Why censor a film that is aired at midnight or is this the price I am paying
for having Sky+ because it can be viewed at anytime?

it with sky+ (not recording) so it looks like it was a cock up at skys end

It's the 45s of "rat breathing liquid" scene that is cut from UK DVD and VHS
copies. The British Veterinary Association didn't want any copycat rat
dunking (or something!). When C4 first showed the film it was left in, and
they got their knuckles rapped. Sky's showing must have been a new transfer
and that is how they dealt with it.

That is strange, on the UK dvd the scene is mostly intact but has been
reframed by moving the frame down slightly so that the rat can't be seen, it
seems sky have tried censoring it themselves and have ****ed it up as usual.

For once I am in full agreement with Sky, if indeed they decided on
cutting this nasty-sounding sequence.

In fact what probably happened is that they showed an edited version
of the film released by the studio. Sky rarely edit such things
themselves.

No, but censors can vet our viewing.

There's a lot of it about, much of it very silly. Next week's
(terrestrial) showing of the 1953 'War Of The Worlds' is apparently
being 'edited for violence'...
