Radio-only receiver?
I am interested in buying a radio-only satellite box to listen to BBC radio on
the Astra 2 satellite. I already have an old Sky Digibox, but I dont want the box near the TV and would prefer something which gives more information on the front of the box (as a minimum the channel number). Does such a thing exist? Anything similar? Many thanks. -- To reply by email please replace 'news' with 'phillip' in my email address Phillip Deackes |
If you hold on to next Summer, Pace are bringing out just such a machine.

The Pace box not out yet looks ideal, but I don't know how much information the display could give because the radio information on the "Sky" EPG is rather limited compared with DAB and Freeview where it often says what the current song is that is playing etc All Radio stations (except Talk Sport) are FTA, so any FTA digital receiver will do, many FTA receivers show the channel number, and the advantage is you can order the radio channels with numbers you want rather than being stuck to the set 9xx numbers. The BBC stations 1-7 could be stored on numbers 1-7 |

Aston Xena models 1600, 1700, 1800 boxes also display the channel name on the front panel (10 character VFD dot matrix display). They are relatively expensive because they include Viaccess and Mediaguard CA, so it's maybe too much for only listening to radio. If the channel number is sufficient (you can generally number the stations as you like in favourite lists), then most FTA receivers which can be found from less than 100 Euros and up have a 4 digits LED display. |

Looks like a nice unit. I notice that the illustration shows BBC Radio 1 on channel 851 - I wonder if it will default to using the Sky EPG numbers unless you change them? |

They probably don't intend marketing it as a retail item but that doesn't always prevent items becoming available via "non-retail" suppliers or "second-hand". -- _______ +---------------------------------------------------+ |\\ //| | Charles Ellson: | | \\ // | +---------------------------------------------------+ | | | // \\ | Alba gu brath |//___\\| |
