Sky+ subsidised by Open?

My father got a Sky FTV package 18 months or more ago, and now is
considering getting a Sports package and Sky+ box. Is the £99 Sky+
subsidised, or is it open to all to pay that?

The Sky site is set up for new punters and does not let you calculate costs
based on what you already have...

Cheers!

If a current subscriber rings Sky to ask for Sky+ he will be quoted
some £200 or more. If a non-subscriber rings he will be quoted £99. A
current subscriber will get the £99 offer if he moans about the
inequality of this. He may need to threaten to cancel.

At worst he can cancel and resubscribe in his wife's name and so get
Sky+ for £99 as a new subscriber.

Why on earth did you tell them anything? Just cancel and resubscribe
using a different name. Don't mention the previous sub at all and if
they ask about it you know nothing having just moved in.

I believe that qualifies as "deception", which is an offence.

Not at all. There is no deception involved. Just a change of sub.
There is no contract to be signed that states that one has never done
this before. The offer is a straightforward one for any new
subscription, with no ifs, buts or maybes.

And before you say that any subscriptions made by a household count as
the same sub I would remind you that Sky contracts are nominative and
individual and that when phoned Sky will not deal with anyone except
the named party on the contract form, or his representative using his
password. At no time will Sky deal with a member of your household as
though they were you. Therefore they clearly consider household
members to be entirely separate individuals (except perhaps when it
suits them).

And if you think this technique is deceit then isn't charging one
person £99 and another £259 for the same thing deceitful also? I would
say it is.

Apart from all the stuff in the contract which you seem to think
doesn't exist.

Yes, you would. However, having special offers for new customers is
not remotely uncommon.

The Sky+ contract contains no mention of special conditions relating
to any £99 offer.

And, as I explained, such a situation does indeed involve an entirely
new customer. Sky contracts are 100% nominative.

We tried to subscribe in my husband's name and cancel my sub. No go. We
were told that even if it had gone through it would show up that the
household had already benefitted in the past and we would therefore be
billed for the difference in price between an existing subscriber and a new
one.

Oh dear.

Cancel FIRST. Then re-subscribe using a different surname.

Sky check only the relation between surname and postcode. Change
either and you immediately appear to be someone else.
