Sky will DIE

Believe me,it is going downhill fast.
Anyone who thinks the movies are great value then you must have lots of
spare cash.
The Box Office movies on now, were on normal TV in the states last november.

What movies were on last Novemebr is the States, please state an
example. On Box office now 'Haunted Mansion' is showing, this only
came out on R1 DVD in January, so that would not have been on YV last
november, please give an example, or shut up.

It does seem to take a long time for films to appear on Sky Box Office.
I think it's towards at bottom of the distribution chain.

Is Sky about to die? Probably not, however its subscriber numbers will
probably level off soon and may fall.

As I've mentioned before, I think one day we'll view (near) VOD via DSL,
and watch programmes instead of channels. TV channels may disappear
altogether and be replaced by programme providers. Programmes will be
paid for by advertising and/or a small fee per view.

The overall cost to the viewer need not be any higher than it is now.
However, instead of paying for channels we don't watch, we'll pay for
the programming that we do.

Want to watch Coronation Street followed by a Bond movie tonight? You
can't: it's Tuesday so there's no Coronation Street and ITV aren't
showing a Bond movie. However you can watch EastEnders and Isn't She
Great instead. With (near) VOD you could watch what you want, when you
want.

Admittedly technology isn't quite up to offering this yet. But the
future isn't far away. :)

Its already here or could be

Kingston Communications do KIT or Kingston Interactive Television

which should be VOD note use of the word 'interactive'

instead they just transmit $KY programmes and the local news is the
only interactive bit.

The technology is here but the fact is that advertisers will not
subsidise this way of programming so thats where it fails.

Incidentally they could have a forced advert break before the
programme started that you had to watch to view the intended
programme.

DVD's are starting to get butchered it won't be long before rental
films have there chapters stripped and then they force you to watch
the trailers at the beginning by disabling all the forwarding buttons
every time you play the film

Very annoying on a C4 brassed off DVD I got last week from the paper.

VOD will come from faster internet access thats probably the way to
go.

My Tivo does this already.

The main question for VOD and NVOD is whether it will come free or
not. I suspect the answer is "not" and, as such, I will stick to my
Tivo.
