Sky+ Question
Hi All,
Just got off the phone to Sky, thought I might upgrade to Sky+. Been with Sky since the begining I have an 80cm motorised dish on my garage roof, no problem said the Sky Man, we will fit our LNB on that sized dish, funny that, they told a Friend about two months ago that they wouldn't touch anything other than a minidish. Also, I would have to connect my Sky+ box to my phone line for 12 months, if I purchased the box and installed it myself I would still have to connect it to a phone line. The reason for this is because a Sky+ box has to acknowledge that it has received any software updates by telephoning Sky. So if I remove the phone line after 12 months the box will stop getting anymore updates because it has not acknowledged getting the last one. Is this true, a Sky+ box has to be connected to a phone line forever? I also asked about the 160 box and he told me that it would not be available until the middle to end of 2005. I didn't order Sky+, I read one thing on the Net and Sky tell me something different, who is correct? I am now very confused and have one of those Sky headaches. |

While you do (according to your contract) have to agree to keep your box connected to the phone line for 12 months, this has nothing whatsoever to do with software updates. The box will call Sky every now and then to let them know if you have bought any pay-per-view movies. It also means that Sky and other providers can tempt you with interactive services that cost you money... |

On channel 999 on the interactive bit it says on there somewhere that the box actually receives the updates over the phone line. They also tried to tell me over the phone that it's the same with normal digiboxes. Funny how when our system was originally installed the engineer left the box downloading software while drilling a hole to route the phone line through. |

When I upgraded, the existing box wasn't connected and the installation guy told me not to bother connecting the new one (unless I actually needed to use it). If for some reason Sky do check just say that you are decorating etc |

Updates are exclusively performed on air. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. You can ignore this requirement. It is only policed if you have a second cheap "mirror" sub and box. The reason for this is because a Sky+ box has to acknowledge that it has received any software updates by telephoning Sky. Not true. See the FAQ. So if I remove the phone line after 12 months the box will stop getting anymore updates because it has not acknowledged getting the last one. Not at all. All boxes receive all software updates on-air for free. No phone connection is EVER required for this at any time. See the FAQ. Is this true, a Sky+ box has to be connected to a phone line forever? Absolutely not. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. You also have to agree to a min of another 12 months, the boxes are
subsidised by Sky. Best to try and find one on ebay or something, as long as you sub to one or more premium channel the Sky+ sub is free. "Del" wrote in message ... Thanks Chaps,
I will purchase my own box and Install myself, I assume that I just phone Sky to marry the card to my Sky+ box when installed? Now, which Sky+ box is the best................here we go again. |
