Changing to Sky digital

Question from a newbie.

I have a working analogue sky system, obviously not receiving sky, but
still working. If I buy a digital decoder and fit a digital LNB to my
analogue dish, will the system work? Sorry if this is a stupid
question, but as the dish and wiring is in place and working it seems a
shame to rip it all out and reinstall new.
Also where can I obtain a card for free to air channels to
work in a sky box without subscribing to sky?

Many Thanks
David

Your main problem will be that it isn't pointed in the right direction.

Apart from that It may well be fine. But perhaps the wiring is getting a
bit old?

Also where can I obtain a card for free to air channels to

Good question.

Yes, but there is no such thing as a 'Digital LNB', it needs to be a Universal LNB,
but in practice almost any new LNB purchased will be one anyway.
Additionally the dish will need to be re-aligned from its present position of 19E, to 28.2E.

Regrettably you can't obtain one anymore. The BBC are unencrypted so no
card is needed for any of their channels, and any digital (i.e non Sky)
satellite box will receive them, but ITV, C4, and C5 although FTV are still encrypted,
therefore a Sky box with a card is required.

Probably (the condition of the old coax may be a factor though) but the dish
would certainly need to be repositioned (it's probably aligned on the Astra
1 cluster at 19.2ºE at the moment and would need to be aligned on 28.2ºE for
UK Sky).
