Further correspondence from Channel 4 CEO

Hello,

I have today received one more email from Mr Mark Thompson, CEO, of
Channel 4.

Mr Thompson, is being defensive, which is of course an industry standard
tactic and not necessarily a dismisal of the RED DOT CHOICE initative.

I personally think, Mr Thompson, may be thinking through and working the
issues too if he is not too focused on his job upgrade application. His
position reflects his "C4's best interests" policy, and I do appreciate
the problems and dilemas he has.

I know Mark personally as a friend, and I have much faith in him. I hope
he will become the BBC D.G.

(The reference to Barry Cox, is C4's Deputy Chairman.)

Mr Thompson's email today:

http://logofreetv.org/content/corres...ay.asp?id=6430

I have written a response which no doubt the N.G. will comment upon:

http://logofreetv.org/content/corres...ay.asp?id=6431

For those who will dimiss us, the principle is END USER CHOICE. We are
pro-choice. Let end users make their own personal decisions about DOGs,
RED DOTs, and software downloads without dictation.

I would like to thank Dom Robinson of http://dvdfever.co.uk/ for
expediating this cause.

Yeah, I got a similar message last week after mail-shotting the BBC,
$ky, etc. about DOGs and red button stuff. In fairness, he's the only
person that's bothered to reply. However, his response was pretty
similar to that posted, and totally missed discussing anything about DOGs.

I get the impression that the broadcasters are gonna keep ramming this
crap down our throats whether we like it or not. Time to stock-up the
DVD library methinks .....

For what it is worth, I think you are doing a great job, and I for one am glad
you persist in this.

I think the best way to perhaps is to focus on the misuse of computers and the
spam angle.
Spam is big news nowadays.
I don't see why my set top box (essentially a computer) should be treated any
differently to my PC.
I should as you point out, be able to opt out of this unwanted marketing.
And before some smart alec replies, I should be able to do this without having
to cancel my subscription. I want the programming, just not the red dots and
logos.

Few things in life are pro choice - whats so special about tv .

10,20,30,40 years campaigning wont change anything & telling you to dump
it and cut your losses is probably the most useful thing anybody could
ever say to you .

--

If the good people of this country had that attitude when they were being
bombed by the Germans, where would we be today. There is one thing losing a
battle when you have tried your damnedest to fight for what you believe and
another losing it because you
give up with a defeatest attitude. I sure know how I would like to lose my
battles...knowing I at least tried.

Now, what ever his gripe and whether his campaign will gain ground or loose
it is irrelevant. He does, however, speak up for his cause, something too
few people in this country seem to do. Most people just sit back and take
what is dealt, moan when the cards are crap but do very little about it.

Regards

MC

You're equating World War II with NOLOGO's campaign? Oh dear me...

If there was logic behind his arguments he'd have my respect. If he threw away
the bad arguments he uses he'd have my respect. But as he just rants away no
matter how wrong his statements are, then why should we not use our own right
to free speech to tell him that he's talking out of his arse?

World War II was a fight for freedom. Shame on you for not approving us using
it.

Isn't it a bit hypocritical to have your website logo on the page this link
points to? After all, everyone who visits the page knows what site they're
on and what they're going to be reading. It's an argument you yourself use
to establish the uselessness of TV logos, so I fail to understand why you'd
brand your own subpages in the exact same way you're condemning the TV
companies for.

You're treating your visitors like idiots and behaving like hypocrites.
