I have left sky to go to ntl almost a year ago

benefits are

1) No red dot (no interactive crap either- player cam pah)
2) Its cheaper BT+ Sky much dearer than NTL for TV and phone

Not sure why you think that it is MUCH cheaper - not according to my
calculations (assuming you use OneTel or the like for all your calls, and
only pay BT for the line). I am on the Family pack with NTL, and comparing
that with BT + Sky seem very much the same as far as price is concerned.

BTW, I am on my way in the other direction due to a house move to an area
not covered by NTL, so may still live to regret my comments...

3) Much cheaper if you want PPV footy - only £1.00 a month !!!
4) Bundle in Broadband and you have everthing in one package at a good
price
5) customer service ok - but they shrugged shoulders at my windows
probs when first set up on BB
6) the channel order can be customised to suit the viewer so as you
scan the channels you see the ones you want - much better than sky
7) EPG for listings is poor compared to sky- so you can use the sky
box you already have
8) few channels not on ntl - only one I miss is fox news- no nazi news
fix for me

Family pack = £19.50
BT Line = £9.50
BB (various for 512KBps) = ~£25

TOTAL = £54

NTL

Family pack = £28
Itemized billing = £1
BB (600k) = £24.99

Total = £53.99

.... and considering that as far I understand it you 1) get many more
channels on Sky; and 2) you get interactive that actually works, well the
Sky deal for me looks better.

Pipex is cheaper than NTL (and more reliable)

I'd been with NTL world in the past when BB was via the STB but quit when
quitting the TV service and E-Mail worked on and off back then.
When I returned to NTL to save cash on phone and broadband,I thought they
may have improved but since found it most unreliable :-(
A pity really that Pipex can't be used on NTL phonelines,I found connection
faster and more reliable.

The NTL sales people say *It's a 5 star system* They did'nt say whether they
was good or bad stars tho' :-/
I can't fault the actual phone service though,Tv choice is'nt great
(although it almost saves on heating alone the way those STB's run so hot!

And who actually uses interactive??

Those *loads more channels on Sky* usually involve shopping channels so
really a false price :-(

You also missed out free 12 months TV channels if you subscribe to telephone
and BB service.

I think they're only freeview type bundle of channels though,Did'nt take
much notice of the leaflet I got through the post.

My only gripe with NTL is the really unreliable mail server,Very rarely
working these days.

1. You can reduce the SKY + BT price by £2 by switching line rental
from "BT Together" (£11.50) to "BT Standard" (£9.50 per month) (*)

2. If you have a BT line, you can register with www.call18866.co.uk
(for free) and then all your local and national calls are just
1p/min + 1p connection charge. So, this is how a 20 minute call
compares:

If any part of the wiring is missing, then it is repaired FOC: pole to
wall
eye; wall eye to entry point; entry point to socket.

Why not just remove the socket upstairs and make sure the wire doesn't
enter
the property?

About 3 years ago I had a massive argument with BT which ended in me
cancelling my line, being the kind of person I am and he mood I was in, I
insisted they even remove the wire from the telegraph pole to my house! (I
know, buts how much they wound me up!). Any way after many arguments they
did remove the wire to my house. So i was left with no BT sockets wires etc
in my property.

About 18 months ago I wanted to go on broadband and my local cable company
(Telewest) could not offer this down my street. They only option I had was
BT !!!!!

I telephoned them and said I wanted to be re-connected so I could get
broadband, I said I would not be using it for calls....quess what she said I
could re-conect for free.

And they did re-wired from the pole to a new master socket for free! I the
signed up with Broadband (not BT though!). I now pay £10 a month just for
the box.
