The Sky RED DOT that doesn't go away - FFS!

Today it finally got to Panasonic boxes :(

I saw on a Thomson box at the weekend (my Mum's) that red-then-backup makes it
dip into the menu and back out again. On the Panny it just goes back to
showing the "Press red" icon.

Pressing 'backup' is not an answer, as on the BBC it comes back every 30 mins
(eg. News 24) and on commercial TV it comes back after the ad break.

Those "red dot zappers" are not the answer as they don't get rid of a problem
that shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Given that this is happening across several TV platforms and across several
makes of digibox, who exactly is to blame? I'm prepared to shift heaven and
earth to put a stop to this but just need to know who to start with.

And anyone thinking about replying "Oh, it's only a red dot, you'll never get
rid of them so you may as well just accept them", then you may as well keep
your opinions to yourself. I've heard it before and if you want to live your
life taking less than second best then that shows more about you.

I agree 150% mate. Totally unnacceptable behaviour by Sky and the
broadcasters.

I'm presuming the "Other Channels" workaround is still effective ?

Seems so .. my Panasonic DB40 was sitting powered off early this morning ..

I saw on a Thomson box at the weekend (my Mum's) that red-then-backup

dip into the menu and back out again. On the Panny it just goes back to
showing the "Press red" icon.

Not mine ..

Pressing 'backup' is not an answer, as on the BBC it comes back every 30

mins
(eg. News 24) and on commercial TV it comes back after the ad break.

Works for me .. If I start on channel (purely for example) 551 and switch to
101 and let the EPG disappear of its own accord (i.e dont press BACKUP to
remove it) the channel comes on and no red-dot .. as for any other channel I
haven't (in about 2.5hrs of use) been able to make a red-dot appear on
SkyOne or ITV1 or 2 .. however I did get a message about my phone line being
disconnected when I started the box back up .. I wonder if I reconnect the
phone line will it (the box) detect it and give me red-dots willy nilly ..
and maybe if you unplug your phone lines it will remove your red-dottiness
.... maybe ...

Those "red dot zappers" are not the answer as they don't get rid of a

problem
that shouldn't be happening in the first place.

True True True ..

Given that this is happening across several TV platforms and across

several
makes of digibox, who exactly is to blame? I'm prepared to shift heaven

and
earth to put a stop to this but just need to know who to start with.

But who actioned this latest step that stops the red-then-backup from working?

How dare you?
I like the Red Dot.
It gives me a secure warm tingly feeling every time I see it.

Sorted.

Not quite sorted. I don't need to spend several hundred pounds on something I
don't need. I've got a TiVo which has more functionality than a Sky+ but
before we start to mass debate, none of this solves the issue.

What does surprise me is that Sky never took the opportunity to be complete
*******s towards Sky+ owners by making the red dot appear similarly. Since
they were a complete **** to everyone else, I don't understand their logic
here.

Not when I'm out and the channel's changing automatically, or I haven't got
time to start faffing about with 'other channels'.

Probably the same people who reason we need DOGs so we know what channel we are
watching.
Clearly they now also think we are so stupid we need a permanent reminder about
interactive too.
