scart inputs

Although my TV has 3 scart sockets only one of them works with RGB input. I
need to connect my sky box and DVD player - later I will add a DVD recorder.
I want to be able to switch scart inputs automatically - the only device I
have found which is supposed to do this is the Masterplug Automatic Scart
Selector (£30 from Argos). However, it does not really work properly
without actually switching off the unwanted devices. The only alternative
I can see is to buy one of the cheaper scart selector blocks which have to
be switched over manually, but this would have to be hidden away - and would
then be fiddly to switch form one input to the next. Any ideas or
alternative products which will not break the bank?

If your DVD has a SCART pass through facility (if it has 2 SCARTs then it
probably has) then you can wire up like this:

Sky Box TV Scart DVD SCART 2
DVD SCART 2 TV SCART (RGB)

Both device now share the same SCART on the TV. If the DVD is not playing
or off then the Sky picture will be fed through to the TV. As soon as you
start playing a DVD then the TV will display the DVD. The switching is done
automatically by the DVD player.

If DVD doen't have SCART pass through then you can use

DVD SCART Sky SCART (video)
Sky SCART TV SCART (RGB)

This way the Sky box does the switching.

You can daisy chain a number of devices through to a single SCART in this
manner.

Cheers,

Nigel

There are *lots* of auto scart switchers. Look again.

The best bet would probably be an electrical shop. Failing that CPC,
Maplins, etc. etc. There are also plenty of ads in WotSat etc. for
such devices.

Except the one that people want to buy .

Something similar to a usb hub with a remote control would sell like hot
cakes IMHO .

There is at least one scart switcher with a remote that I know of.
Personally I see no use for a remote and prefer the auto feature.

There is a great cheap 20 quid one from Toys'R'Us
http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.asp...ssories/077151
I have one of these & it's well worth the money. It comes with a remote about
the size of a PCMCIA card. It also come with two quite decent microphones so you
can have Karaoke duets.:-)

If you don't need the karaoke microphones or remote control of the 20 quid
Toys'R'Us
http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.asp...ssories/077151
but do need optical audio switching then there is this 40 quid unit from
Play.com that comes in silver or black.
