Recording Sky + to DVD R....help needed please
Dear All,
Please can someone tell me what I need to copy sky + recordings into my PC then process them and write to DVD using PC DVD recorder. I assume I will need some card in PC to capture program ie, Scart from Sky + to scart to PC ?? Suitable software to create and edit recording , ie cut out all adverts etc. Then finally convert finished work to suitable file say avi ? then copy to DVD with say NERO ?? Does anyone know exactly what equipment / hardware I need and also what software for PC ?? I also have a lot of Camcorder recordings on VHS tape which I want to get onto DVD for safe keeping, I guess the same procedure would apply for the Sky + coping ?? Any help Guys would be appreciated..... |

The Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 is excellent for the money. Check out www.shspvr.com & the forums at www.shspvr.com/forum for all information regarding this card. The major bummer is that from the Sky+ you need to replay the show that you want record so it takes time. -- Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur |
Thanks Nigel for the information.
Have you got this device......how do you rate it etc ?? Rgds Steve "Nigel Barker" wrote in message ... There are USB capture boxes with scart but not RGB, AFAIK. You can use the S-Video output from your Sky+ and this will give the best quality available to you. Suitable software to create and edit recording , ie cut out all adverts etc. The Womble MPEGVCR is probably best for this, assuming that your video capture card provides MPEG1 or 2. Then finally convert finished work to suitable file say avi ? AVI (or more precisely MPEG4) will be suitable for playback on a PC or some very recent set top DVD players only. I personally would take the MPEG2 output from Womble and use something like DVDLab to turn it into a proper DVD that will play on any PC or set top DVD player. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. I've never used any other TV or capture card though so my opinions are a bit coloured:-) -- Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur |

There is a great new MPEG editor that everyone seems to be recommending now it's called VideoReDo www.videoredo.com It looks great, works well, has very responsive support & is cheaper than Womble. There is a full function time-limited trial version available for download. -- Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur |

One advantage of Womble for me is the built-in GOP error correction and audio bitrate adjustment and the way that it outputs rock-solid MPEG with no glitches. Other programmes that I have tried can't seem to do any of that. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. For two considerations only. 1, VideoReDo is cheaper. 2, if you own a Hauppauge PVR 250 and copy from a poor VCR, you may get some dropped video frames. When you run this file through say TMPGEnc, it will scan the video sequentially, and of then, because of missing video frames, the video occurs ahead of the audio and lip-sync occurs. VideoReDo apparently, will detect missing video frames, and fix the MPEG by removing an audio frame. The result is a rock steady MPEG, and as for the missing audio frames? I can't notice them. So VideoReDo scores big time for me as an owner of the PVR 250. I've never had Womble fix this situation for me. Cya Simon |

I Record onto DVD-R's from the Sky box then use smart ripper to transfer the files to the PC, divx to encode them and then TMPENGC to cut out the bits I dont want, It's a bit time consumeing, but the end product is cool..... |
