Hello!

Any news of CMT (Country Music TV) returning to SKY packages?
Thanks
Bubo

Must admit, I'd like to see the return of CMT to the Sky platform. Would
certainly beat all the ******** that's sprung up over the last few years.

Hi Sim, sounds good, but not ideal for us folk out in the sticks
without Broadband.
On an unrelated note, did you know that Dead Like Me is out on DVD
(Region 1)
in early May.

I see playusa.com have it for £30.99 (preorder) which is very tempting, but
what with Angel Series 4 just out and the final Buffy series out soon, I
shall be keeping my downloads for now :)

You mean that music with great melodies, meaningful lyrics and

world-class
performance and production values?

I thought we were talking about country and western?

I take it you never watched CMT - there was very little Country & Western on
it (fortunately as its one of the few ganres of country music that I hate)

I'm glad I wasn't drinking a cup of tea or something when I read that or
half of it would have ended up over my keyboard.

I meant that most sincerely, folks. It's just that the only country that
seems to make it big over here is the real drivel like "Achey-Breaky

Heart".

.... in the charts that is - don't forget that one of the relatively low
number of national digital radio channels is country - there is an
increasing amount of country on BBC4 - in the past few weeks we have been
treated to Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons and Laura Cantrell. Theres a lot of
country played on BBC 6Music and there are regular country shows on Radio2.
The continues success of the Beyond Nashville series in London suggests that
live country is very popular - certainly whenever I go to the Borderline
there is normally a bigcrowd down there.

:O) Not a lot. It was on when I had cable but in those days MTV had odd shows
worth watching and not that long ago MTV2 was pretty cool... until someone
decided Blink 182 and co were music.
There were some foreign music channels that I enjoyed but they went with the
analogue.

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I'll watch BBC4/ listen to BBC 6 Music for the
first time.

Country 1035 has recently become Easy Listening 1035. :(

The trouble is that the majority of UK country fans are still stuck in
some sort of 1950s time warp. As far as they're concerned country means
Tammy Wynette and George Jones. You only have to pick up any of the UK
based country music magazines to see them sneering and dismissive of the
likes of say Dwight Yoakam or Martina McBride, or even the Dixie Chicks.

All the while this 'stuck-in-the-past' mentality rules we'll never see
the likes of CMT back again. Alas they were five years ahead of their
time. The digital platform is significantly less expensive to run than
the old analogue platform was, hence the proliferation of dozens of
similar pop channels now on Sky digital. But for all that, I can't see
Gaylord, CMT's owners, wanting to risk chucking away another ten million
quid, the amount it cost them last time.

Regards

Mark

I was in the USA a few months back and MTV in the US has really gone
downhill. Its just black base crap all the time. Lost its way badly, and
seems to be taking VH1 with it over there.

It's pretty sad that they have made everything so one sided. I used to love, if
memory serves me right, Monday nights and Thursday nights, for programmes like
Headbangers ball and Alternative Nation. Then they started chopping and
changing. When I finally got onto MTV2 I thought at last, a cool channel, but
before too long they were taking advertising, showing idiots maiming themselves
and playing boy bands masquerading as rock.
Small things keep popping up... 120 minutes is good, but how long will it last?

Just to say I met the Dixie Chicks once, "before they were famous". I worked for
US company at the time in Dallas, and we had them play at a company kick off
meeting. Nice girls, they hung around after their gig and had a beer and a dance
with us all.
