Probably because Bernie is broadcasting to a lot of countries and
thinks that most of his audience don't have widescreen. It's annoying but I think he might be right. Andrue Cope [Brackley, UK] But why not simply have 16:9 cameras at the track and give broadcasters the choice of receiving the full picture or a cropped 4:3 version. That way everybody is happy. Brendan I suspect they do. Australia has both standard and high definition digital services so 16:9 broadcasting is not unusual. However Bernie does control the world wide broadcasting rights etc so he defines what the world feed is and that would be 4:3 ratio. If the host broadcaster were free to sell the over seas TV rights as they saw fit and not under the direction of Bernie we probably would be getting 16:9 from certain events. It would be a nice touch for Bernie to offer some F1 events in High Def especially as the US market matures (they have already shown some CART in HD) and F1 would be a huge bonus for Euro1080's attempt to create an European service. I hope soon it will go widescreen!
If people want to carry on receiving a 4:3 picture like it is now, then just choose 4:3, but don't stop people wanting that little bit extra! www.bextech.org.uk -- come and have a rant |
