what to do with a dish?
The Crow wrote:
Hi. I've just discovered that the house I've started renting appears to have a diggy dish on the side, and a lead in the lounge. If I were to get hold of a box, is there anything I can do with this? obviously pick up sky. I know sky used to have a free card, is this till true or would I have to subscribe? My tv signal is rubbish, so I'm looking for rf alternatives. Thanks. Assuming the dish is still aligned correctly, you could buy a second hand Digibox from EBay etc. That (without any viewing card) would give you all the BBC TV channels (1,2,3,4 N24, CBBC etc) plus a number of other FTA TV stations (CNN, Sky News, Shopping Channels, radio). It will not receive ITV-1, C4 or Five. You need an FTV card for these. No longer issued I'm afraid. See the FAQ for more details http://tinyurl.com/yvnsy |

(along with loadsa other mainly junk channels) If you wanted to get ITC/C4/C5 you'd need a card, which were available from www.free2view.tv, but no longer are.. I'm sure you could get a card from ebay.. R |

Technically they are property of Sky and shouldn't be resold. http://www.itvchannel4five.com/ is selling them for £125. Don't know how reliable they are. -- All mail sent to this address will be spam filtered by Spam Interceptor If replying you may be asked to confirm that your mail is genuine. They DO seem to still be available on Ebay. For many months Sky have done periodic checks on Ebay for auctions involving cards. I don't think that Ebay does anything about it unless it is specifically requested by Sky though. So if they check this week the cards will probably be back next week. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. It also seems that people selling digiboxes also have something to the effect that punters should contact them by email regarding obtaining a card. Thus they are within the rules as they are not selling Sky cards through Ebay. -- Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur |
