Sky + Question

I already subscribe to sky, but am thinking of upgrading to Sky + I have a
couple of questions:-

If I choose to relocate my box with a mirror sub, do I have to keep the
mirror sub active for 12 months, or can I just downgrade it to a FTV card
after a month or so. (Im guessing that I will have to subscribe for the
full 12 months, but I thought I would check).

On the basis I have to subscribe to the above for the full 12 months, I
probably wont bother with the relocation, my second question therefore is
will I get a new viewing card for the Sky + box, and therefore be able to
move my existing box and its card to another room myself, and use it as a
FTV box? or do they use your existing card in the Sky + box?

Thanks for any info you can provide

Dave

You get a new card ( I did anyway) and I use the original exactly as you
propose, to get the free channels on the second box.

AFAIK not any more.

They've *never* provided a new card to people upgrading from Sky Digital -
you use your existing card. A new card is only provided when you're
getting a mirror sub as well.

A year ago almost to the day I had Sky+ installed and my original card was
replaced with a new one. The old card is currently in the original box,
which was relocated but is not on a mirror sub, it just gets the FTV
channels.

Around the time Sky started issuing V2 cards, perhaps?

In the beginning they sent out new cards automatically regardless of
whether people intended keeping the old box or not. I don't know the
reasoning behind this: possibly to encourage second sub use, or
perhaps simply a procedural error. This is well documented.

They stopped doing this many months ago and since then you only get a
second card if you ask for a mirror sub.

Indeed it was but its not that because the 'original' card is a V2.

Looks like I did it at the right time then :-)

As someone who got Sky+ on day one - no they didn't.
