Auctions and car boot sales. Or just wait a while for new ones to be
issued. Or get a minimum sub for one year and cancel.

There was a bit in the Observer today (08/02) about this. Channel 4 are
aware of the issue and may do something about it if there's enough
demand - that's the gist of it, AIR. It might be worth calling them.

I am constantly astounded by the apparent total disconnection from
reality demonstrated by everyone who has anything to do with FTA and
FTV channels. Do these people have any comprehension of anything?

Anyone with even 10% of his brain functioning could look at Ebay and
see that the demand for FTV cards is huge. Unfortunately the FTV
broadcasters and the DCMS clearly have less than 10% of their brain
functioning.

There would have been more demand for the service that ended on Jan 31
had there been any attempt made to publicise it. Even the onscreen
banner messages weren't updated to take account of the service and of
course anyone asking Sky about it was told that no such card exists.

I don't think that sales on Ebay could be held up as evidence of huge demand. I
just did a quick search & found 74 results for 'sky card' not all of those items
are for digiboxes though. I imagine that most of these cards are going outside
the UK.

A sale is a sale. I think that these figures are high given that these
are people looking for something the existence of which was never
advertised.

My contention is that most if not all FTV cards on Ebay are bought for use
overseas. There are supposed to be at least 250,000 ex-pat Brits living in
France. I don't know what the figures are for Spain & other areas within the
Astra2 footprint but the number of sales seems pretty small given the potential
market.

Provided that you can receive it in your area Freeview DVB-T for UK residents is
a far better option than an FTV satellite card. It's free for a start & has more
channels some of which are pay channels on BSkyB.

Also rubbish

some of which are pay channels on BSkyB.

It has less channels - some of which don't exist at all on DTT.

I dare say a large number do. However, it won't be all and it probably
won't be most. There are plenty of people in the UK with existing sat
boxes, no series 2 card and the desire to watch the FTV channels. The
very fact that the FTV card-issuing started up again proves this.
I will bet a small sum that the service will soon be back, probably at
an even higher price.

I would have both. There are many people in the UK who can't get
Freeview though: I know one who lives just 25 minutes from central
London in one of the most expensive areas around and he can't get it
either.
