FTV card ends Jan?
My wife's husband works for the free2view service and he has been told that the replacement card service ends 31st January but a new card on line service will begin within 2 weeks for new customers and the cards will cost £45.50. The subsided cards £23.50 were only for people who had already old P1 cards. "Nigel F" wrote in message ... The website at www.free2view.tv says that you can renew a card only up to 31 Jan 04 - ie tomorrow!! Does that mean you can't order a new one after that date? |

Good grief. At £23.50 the cards were already seriously overpriced. They must cost all of £5 to make and despatch. The subsided cards £23.50 were only for people who had already old P1 cards. They were also issuing them to anyone who wanted one, regardless of whether they had an old card or not. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Then with call centre and distribution costs, it is more like twenty. Then there is VAT. So it seems that there is no profit margin at the current price. -- AJL Electronics (G6FGO) Ltd : Satellite and TV aerial systems http://www.classicmicrocars.co.uk : http://www.ajlelectronics.co.uk |

Ha ! Almost the same price as some Freeview DTT boxes, (not much help for the 25-30% of the UK out of DTT range of course). |

What Sky want to do is to make people take out a subscription. Fortunately I live where there is a good signal for Freeview, but it seems many people live in an area where Freeview simply is not available. I have both Sky (sub) and Freeview here (and I'm a BBC News 24 addict). Mike. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). He would. ;-) A quick comparison with online shops selling wafer cards would suggest that £10 is very high. Especially when ordered in quantities of 7 million or more. Then with call centre and distribution costs, it is more like twenty. No, I can't see this either. For £25 I can subscribe to a magazine using a credit card via a call centre and have 12 issues posted to me. They do not do this at a loss. To compare this with the entirely automated purchase of a single viewing card sent out in a single envelope is not reasonable. Then there is VAT. So it seems that there is no profit margin at the current price. I have no doubt at all that there is a significant profit being made somewhere. Initially by Sky in the cost of the card and subsequently by the company handling the orders. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Can this 'relative' of yours tell me the name of some manager responsible for the free2view service to which I want to send a written complaint about the service itself? After more than 1 month since I received the card I have been unable to have the card working and the call center support has been quite .... disappointing (to be kind with them!). And I've been so stupid of NOT stopping the payment through my credit card... By looking around on the web I have found out that the service is run by a company named MGt in Kirkcaldy (Scotland, I could have guessed this from the accent of the ladies on the phones in my numerous calls). From their Web site (www.mgtplc.com) I have also found a couple of names but they don't seem to be the correct ones to send a complaint. By the way I have also found the following info (http://www.mgtplc.com/html/News%20Re...st_success.htm) "This was emphasised only last month [October 2003], when MGt secured a two year contract with Channel 4, ITV and Five which will allow viewers to have continuing access to what are three of the UK's leading public service television channels." So this seems to confirm that they are going to continue the service at a certain point, and if it is true that they will double the price, than I am not too surprised that they are not ver keen on solving my problems... By the way does anyone knows any useful address for consumer watchdogs or similar to which I can expose the case. The £ 23.50 is not a lot of money, but being ripped off some business service company with a flashy web site is much more irritating than by some dodgy looking individual selling you an hacked card from the back pages of a magazine. (and also 'service' companies should be able to do 'services' professionally) |
