I can't see that there's any technical reason why this should be so. The technical reason is that the viewing card uses the live signal to authorise decoding. This isn't a valid reason of course. Thanks to all for the feedback. I got the impression that their was some delay between loss of signal and the box refusing to playback (of the order of an hour, perhaps?). It would be better if this delay were upped to 12 or 24 hours to account for adverse winter weather conditions. The support chap at Sky said I'd been the only person he knew of to complain of this problem. Maybe if more of you complain to them they'll do something about it! Tony H |

Sky are very cagey about how the authorisation is achieved but I could imagine a signal coming through every hour or so. Just tried playing a movie that I had recorded and viewed while I had the
movie package over Christmas. I can still watch the movies I recorded but my viewing package has gone back to the family pack !! "Ken Fowler" wrote in message ... Its exactly the same if you downgrade your licence, any programs stored on the hard drive, which you may not have viewed. are no longer viewable, if that channel is no longer being paid for. Hence the need for a dish feed to allow you to view. In effect you a re not paying for the programs you have recorded, just for what you are viewing at the time. Conversely you could record loads of films off channels you don't subscribe to at present, upgrade your package and then be able to see them. Personally I prefer to stick with the basic sky and record films to my Panasonic hs2, no encryption issues then if the signal is lost. However this doesn't help if you loose the signal when the program you want is on, as I did for about 10 hours when it snowed. (Dish is too high to access and clear the snow off, I have to wait until it melts!) |

No. The Sky+ is perfectly capable of playing back recordings without a satellite signal or EPG. However it has been deliberately slugged to make this impossible. I thought I read that with the new software it didn't so this any more? |

(and I STILL can't see the need for a "view last channel button") I was referring to regular digiboxes though even for the Sky+ a "last channel button" is indeed the most useful addition that could be made to the remote control functions. It has always been the number one request. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
