Sky+ recordings

Are the recordings on the Sky+ stored in any computer-readable format?

Its just, I'm getting rather annoyed at the fact I've got about 16 hours of
films to copy to VHS off sky, when I could save them as MPEG2 in good
quality on my computer, if only I could get at them?

Even if it means transferring the harddisk to my computer?

Thanks,

Ben

Even if they were stored in a PC readable fashion, which they're not, it
still would do you no good as they're encrypted as part of the Sky
encryption system which is uncracked, and unlikely to be.

The easiest answer is to buy yourself a DVD recorder and use the Copy
function to move them to DVD. The recordings are then easily read and
edited on a PC.

Yes - after all how would the Sky+ read them to show?

Is this the last pedant sighting of 2003 do you suppose?

You can't do that but do you have a DV camcorder? I put stuff onto DV
tape and then firewire it into the PC and edit out the ads in Premiere
then encode to MPEG2 for DVD, sounds a hassle but you can put a nice
menu system together on PC unlike the set-top DVD recorders.

Mmm, sounds good, but I don't have one.

At the moment, the Sky box is connected to my composite in on PC, which I
use for a TV display, I suppose I could use some software to do that, I'm
at a loss to what software would be best tho, to encode to MPEG2...

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ben

Can't help with that as I use hardware MPEG2 encoding but this website
should see you right:

Well, have at my good man. I'd be more than happy to see it cracked
simply from a challenge point of view. Though, to be honest, I'd rather
they managed Viacces 2 and Seca 2 first (which they've also singularly
failed to break with over a year's trying) as they have newer films and
much better porn.

Not strictly true. FTA channels (notably the Beeb) will not be
VG encrypted.
