Opps I just cut my Sky cable :-(
 

I just sliced the cable from the LNB going into the Sky box
by accident. My digibox is years old but I dont really want
to splash out £200 for Sky+.

Looking at the LNB it seems I can just screw in a new cable
and away I go. Does anyone know where I can get this cable
made up? I just went down my local tele repairs shop but
he's closed over the weekend.

Is there anywhere online that I can order this cable from?

i would think maplin shops would sell something suitible if theres one near

Yeah I did have a look but could only see the F connector
but no cable. I have found another link to a shop near me
that sells everything I need (I think).

Do you have any idea what I can use to waterproof the cable
that connects to the LNB outside? The one I did have seemed
to have some sort of rubber mask over it.

Sat grade cable.

Do you know if they sell it spliced, I know you cans screw
on the f connectors but i'm not sure about splicing the
cable.

I would be curious to know what would happen if you stripped the ends where
the break is, and twist the two cores together and twist the two braids
together?

Use some insulating tape to prevent the cores from touching the braids.

OK. I admit. a very amateurish fix, but would probably get you out of an
emergency until the shops open again.

Id like to know if the digibox would still work with this type of bodge-fix.

Good thinking I should have thought of that before I cut the
cable again to take down to the closed tv repair place.

By all accounts the cable is available in B&Q so I should be
able to fix it tommorow morning, I just hope I wasn't too
rough when I was playing around with the dish :-(

Might work but not recommended. Dig sat cable is made especially low-loss to
preserve signal integrity. Any re-splicing job is going to introduce
interference and signal loss, let alone moisture. Best to replace the whole
cable run from dish to box. Where the F connector joins LNB, it should be
made watertight by using self-amalgamating tape, available from any sat
dealer. When you buy the cable, ask for some and they may cut a foot or so
free. A roll might cost £3-4.

It would also be worthwile disconnecting from the Sky box or unplugging the
Sky box before comming any repairs, as there is (I believe) a voltage
running through the cable to power the LNB.
