News Item: Media Guardian - BBC talks to buy 24 collapse
http://logofreetv.org/redirect.asp?i=3362
We don't know the full truth of it, but there are 2 factors: - The BBC being "unencrypted" has upset NewsCorp / Fox. - Fox got greedy and asked for too much money. Personally, I would love to see "24" on FIVE. http://logofreetv.org/ XML Newsfeeds: http://forum.logofreetv.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=865 -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

Fox wanted to charge OTT for the 3rd series that wasn't doing that well in the US - the broadcasting to Europe bit was a smokescreen, IMHO. In any event, the second series was pretty poor after the first, so I don't see this as a big loss. I gave up on series 2 half way through - way too boring and formulaic. That's the trouble with US shows - they're flogged to death. Now the Beeb will have put something hopefully better on in its place. Clem |

The same is happening with S3, a little slow to start but it is getting pretty good again now (albeit pretty predictable) |

|| || || Complete with adverts!!! Yeah, that sounds reel good doesn't it? But each episode would be an hour long instead of 40 minutes - real time ;o) |

If Five show it, it will be on at 8:00 pm for about 15 weeks before vanishing without trace. Channel 4 would edit it for a tea time audience, show 3 episodes and then broadcast the rest in the prestigous 2 am slot in three years time. -- Anya : "I provide much needed sarcasm" Xbox live : neil hopkins Note that there is an exclusive spam filter on this email address. I hate to think what they will do with episode 5 then - in the states they put the warning message "Due to some graphic violence, viewer discrection is advised" during the ad breaks :o) |

Nah, keeping Pure ****e even though they've lost the rights to 24 would be another example of Stuart Murphy "thinking out of his box". Still, not long before his self-imposed departure from BBC Free materialises - with a track record like his, it can only be onwards and upwards for the muppet. And there's a ready made replacement, eager for a whole channel to **** up instead of just a single programme. Its the most gripping thing Ive ever seen on television. So yes, a lot of people will consider it a great loss not to have 24 on BBC2. |

It is a matter of taste of course. The scene where the nuke goes off was one of those profound TV moments, at least in my mind. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

I appreciate that this type of programme is slow to build (as was S1), but it just seemed too predictable for my liking, along with a big chunk of implausability. Each to their own ..... |

S1 was pretty entertaining because it was a new concept. S2 relied on the formula of S1, so the format was, IMO, already tired. Add to that an implausible story line (again, IMO) and by episode 9 or 10, I'd had it. I found it so boring I kept falling asleep through it - not the mark of something engaging in my book. Clem |

I've only read a few episode synopses in TV Zone, but Carnivale sounds pretty damn interesting. Slow, sometimes doom-ladenly pretentious, but better by a mile than almost anything currently on UK TV. Astonishing photography, excellent writing and acting. Above all original - there's nothing else like it (the Twin Peaks comparison is way off the mark - closer to American Gothic, I think) I'm wondering who *will* buy it. BBC2? (maybe with a BBC4 showing beforehand? Can't see it working on BBC3 [or 1] at all). Channel 4? (the usual home for HBO stuff) Maybe Channel 5 if it's cheap enough : ) John L |
