I heard it'll be installed by Santas Little Helper who will also be
involved in creating the new improved services subscribers are
being charged in advance for but will probably never see...but
that'll have to wait till after the xmas rush !

Sima December 2nd 03 02:59 PM

YAWN.

we've had this on digital spy forums for months, where people have spoke to
someone in the know and date has passed.

latest one is next year.

basically believe NO one from sky or anyone that has spoke to someone from
sky.

S

psst he's probably nothing to do with sky and just contracted out by sky to
install dishes.

Spoke to sky tech. today

Brian December 2nd 03 03:17 PM

Just to Clarify,

I was on to sky themselves about a suggestion I had for them. They put me on
to some development manager who seemed to be fairly high up and really in
the know. After taking to him for about 20 minutes I asked him a by the way
about DR and he said that he had signed off on it last week and that the
software pack was currently being bundled to be ready for download on
Thursday. Most users should have it in a couple of days.

With only two days to go, I would keep quiet about this rumour of dual
recording software on Thursday. Then I would be wise and sarcastic after
Thursday morning, Paul and Sima. This way I wouldn't have to apologise for
my possible incorrect smugness,
Joe

It's March 2004 actually!

The DR Software has finally been finished by Sir Clive on his Spectrum after
getting a 16K Ram pack ;-)
Sky donated him the 50p they promised are finally making a profit on all
those exta 10 quid subs since Sky+ arrived on the shelves.

Upgrade December 2004 (When Sky's target of *bums on seats for Sky+* has
been reached) will be disabling F/forwarding through Ad breaks on Sky+
recordings.

John December 3rd 03 09:26 AM

Also just noticed you can be recording two programs, and watching a third
pre-recorded program (but not a third channel).

Downloading starts Thursday and it will be here by Christmas? That's
one hell of a download.

Just wondering if the new update shows the correct free percentage with
those who have upgraded their HDD?

I had a download of new software at 7.50 this morning on my Sky+. I know it
happened because I was listening to BBC1 news; and I suddenly realised that
the sound and picture had disappeared and been replaced by a blank screen, and
the green light had turned red. After a minute I was able to turn the Sky+
light green; and later on the Sky+ Planner I was able to change a
"reminder" set for next Monday (University Challenge, 20,30) to "record". I
had recording set to Sky One (Stargate) for 20.00 to 21.00 slot, and I have
now set the 20.00 to 20.30 slot to G2 (Red Dwarf) recording as a test. The
legends at the bottom of the Planner screen have changed to indicate the new
situation. On the Tuesday night my old Amstrad Sky box in the bedroom had
locked to red as if an upgrade signal had been received but there didn't;
seem to be any change in the reference details on that box.

Mine was down loaded overnight and has accepted a recording on two
channels at the same time, without the usual warning of a clash coming
up.

I know, it's great aint it. Looking forward to trying it out tonight.
Must say though, it's very rare I want to record 2 programmes on
separate channels but at least the option is there now. What I do like
the idea of though, is recording paused live TV. V. handy

Let's hope they have fixed the sound fault on VCR Scart/Copy To Tape. I got
the impression they are just ignoring that one!

More Info.

Seems that they,(sky) downloaded new software last night (Tuesday).
The new s/w download has wiped my pre-recorded programmes and now
prevents me from recording anything else. I tried the usual resets and
houskeeping functions and spoke with a sky "engineer" :¬) who has
organised a replacement unit for next Tuesday. Seems that I am not
alone and the new download has corrupted the s/w on many new style
(grey)sky+ boxes.
Its a pity that this "fairly high up development manager" didn't
organise some more thorough testing of the download before releasing
it to the public.
This will be my second replacement unit since it was installed 4 weeks
ago.
My VCR is looking more appealing by the day.

Bill
