The BBC used to be FTV until July this year. They paid the vast majority of the costs associated with the issue of FTV cards. However when the Beeb went FTA, ITV, C4, and C5 were unwilling to take on the extra costs, and the FTV card scheme died. There are rumours and reports that following pressure from the regulators, the scheme could be revived. However it seems that any viewer requiring an FTV card will need to pay a fee. £22 has been mentioned. The other current method to receive ITV/4/5 without a Sky sub, is to register with adult channel Pout. For £9 (was £5) you can register for their pay to view service. They send you a card, and this decodes the FTV channels. You do not actually need to view their service (unless you want to of course ;-) ) |

For a small sum from Pout. New ones will probably be available again soon. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. That's the case only if you are 'upgrading' from a Version 1 card, using your originally registered (with the Beeb or Sky) address. If you want a Pout card, and have no existing FTV or lapsed Sky card, then you end up being charged. |

How much are you then charged if you don't have a card? |

Ta for the info re price. However, aren't there some *other* restrictions if you phone them as opposed to registering online? I dunno, could swear I read something along those lines, can't find it now though. |
