Dont kick the newbie

But...

Well I've just moved apartment. The wall socket for the external tv
aerial also has a connection for FM and one for sky... which is nice.

Not knowing what it meant by sky (I can't spot the dish so far)...
I've gone and got hold of a pace sky digibox and plugged it in.

what I'm getting is the full epg listings but only the following
channels: all the sell/travelshop channels; sky, CNN, parliament and
ITV news; gamestation; s4c; TCM.

The BBC1 channel is listed as BBC Yorks (the location of the box's
previous oweners) but its not showing anyway.

Is all this because the system installed in my building is for
analogue? I expected to not get much with the old subscriber card but
I was hoping for the FTA BBC's.

IF this is the case, is there anything I can do? will I get more by
plugging in an old analogue box?

I've been trawling the newsgroup looking for clues, sorry if its right
under my nose.

Thanks for any help

Well, that at least proves there is a dish connected to it *somewhere*.

Doesn't it take a while for some FTA channels to activate?

Good. The dish and setup are presumably OK then.

Is this card sky blue with "Sky Digital" on it or bark blue with a
yellow house design?

Either way, see the FAQ, reload the software, perform the phantom
personal planner entry procedure and then give the card a chance to
reactivate (may take 24 hours). If the card doesn't activate then do
the phantom PP procedure again but don't reinsert the card at the end.
That way you will at least get the BBC channels.

You should be able to get a new FTV card soon.

My card is sky blue with "Sky Digial" on it.

Either way, see the FAQ, reload the software, perform the phantom
personal planner entry procedure and then give the card a chance to
reactivate (may take 24 hours). If the card doesn't activate then do
the phantom PP procedure again but don't reinsert the card at the end.

I've done the software reload and the phantom planner procedure. Now
what I end up with is all the subscription channels telling me I have
an unauthorised card or to insert a card (depending on whether its in
or not) and all the FTA FTV channels saying no signal is being
recieved. (before it was just a 'no signal' message for everything).
What is interesting is that before I forced the update BBC1 was listed
as london, now it has reverted back to Yorks.

Depending on whether I reset the box and insert the card or leave it
out I get either the BBC3,4,ITV2 etc channels listed in the epg or
them being missed out.

I'm currently leaving the card in with the hope of it sorting itself
out.

It's an old "series 1" card...

an unauthorised card or to insert a card (depending on whether its in

....which seems to have been deactivated.

and all the FTA FTV channels saying no signal is being
recieved.

This is nothing to do with the card. It sounds more like a 22KHz switching
problem, which could be caused by either the box or the LNB.

Forget the card. It's dead.

Redo the phantom PP procedure but don't insert the card. You will have
London back again.

It won't. If you are getting "no satellite signal" on BBC and ITV then
you have the 22khz switching problem as described in the FAQ. Test
your box on a dish that is known to be working to isolate the fault.
It may be that someone has been messing about with the LNB settings in
your digibox.

New FTV cards will surely be available soon.

The OP might be on a communal dish/aerial system ? The problem could be
that the installation cannot receive and/or route low-band signals, either
because of a fault, or omission.

As you say, swapping the box etc, will verify.

It's a misprint! Hang onto it, it could be worth thousands. :-)

Ok, I've got a new cable (no surprises there) and waited a day and
done the card thing.

Up north the box was working fine getting BBC, ITV etc. Yes, the dish
(or whatever it is) is communal. Can I access the LNB settings on the
box? Guess I'll try collar a neighbour and see what they've got.

That's certainly possible.
