Sky+ Upgrading HD - can you copy over existing data?
Hi, If I get myself a nice shiny 120Gb drive to upgrade my Sky+ box, can you copy the data from the existing 40Gb drive to the new one, using a PC? Maybe using Norton Ghost or similar? Ta. Ralph. |

Maybe with some Linux utility but I doubt with a Windows one. Let us know, AFAI have read, it is required to format the disk when you put it in the box, so unless you had some way of changing the data to look exactly as Sky+ expects to see it you are probably on a loser. -- Tumbleweed Remove theobvious before replying (but no email reply necessary to newsgroups) |

It's got to be worth trying. The Sky+ uses FAT32 so I don't see why Ghost or Linux shouldn't be able to handle it. The only problem that I can foresee is if the Sky+ has a way of incorporating the box serial number and/or the hard drive serial number into the FAT and/or files. It may well do so. You've got nothing to lose by trying though. See the FAQ for Sky+ links. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
