SKY News is now unwatchable
First of all, there were the audio whooshes whenever they invaded the
screen with News Flashes Now they have the continuous ticker, which is very distracting I have switched to News 24, much less annoying, though the BBC emphasis on foreign News is still too much. |

Double agreed. I have switched to News 24, much less annoying, though the BBC emphasis on foreign News is still too much. The BBC emphasis on carrying more foreign news is particularly welcome. Yep, I agree too. However it would be nice if BBC World (which I watch when I'm out of the UK) carried more UK news. Hotels provide it because they assume it does. In fact the Beeb deliberately play down any UK connection with the channel. Therefore I often find myself watching Sky News when abroad, just to get UK news. I never watch it at home though. |

I know that, that's why I said (and you snipped) that the Beeb played down any UK connection. But, if it did carry some UK domestic news it could gain more (albeit transient) viewers. After all it is still a commercial enterprise? Hotels provide it because they assume it does. Balls. I'll pass your kind comment onto the next overseas hotel manager that states the same to me. :-) |

The news flashes are a pile of sh*te anyway - usually something completely trivial and non-urgent taking up a ridiculous part of the screen. I have come up with some sort of a compromise when I watch SKY News, I have setup the User screen size format on my TV to virtually exclude the ticker, and most of the logo, but it would be nice if perhaps they could transmit a pre DSK version on 502 !! Do you think anyone tells Sky what's wrong with their news screen? Do you think they would take any notice? -- Paul My Lake District walking site (updated 29th September 2003): http://paulrooney.netfirms.com Please sponsor me for the London Marathon at: http://www.justgiving.com/london2004 |

I've never had a response to my e-mail yet, perhaps it's still staffed by Aussies, that's why they need all the sounds and large print, perhaps e-mails to should be in very large print, with a whoosh of course... |

Yep, probably is, but even CNN-I has a programme for US ex-pats, (American Edition) Deutche Welle (the German international TV news channel) has similar slots, as indeed does BBC World Service Radio. |

News 24 is not a 'competitor' to BBC World anywhere outside of Astra 2D's footprint, there the only source of TV UK domestic news is via Sky News (where available). IMHO the Beeb could enhance their domestic appreciation by providing a slot on BBC World aimed at UK holiday makers, and business travellers. This is something they do on BBC World Service *Radio*. I would have thought there was less of a case to have it on radio (FCO financed), than on TV (advertising funded) |

I'm sure they aren't after 'enhancing their domestic appreciation' and the UK public is not the target - fortunately. The one thing World is weak on is non-UK European news. CNNi is far better in this regard. |

If I want to follow a referendum or general election or Lande election etc elsewhere in Europe - but in English - then I don't use World. |
