Sky+ is.....
......FLIPPING MARVELLOUS!!!
I had it installed yesterday and I am well impressed. As expected it works fantastic as a recorder - so hassle free. It's the other little features that change the way you live (is that a little strong?), such as the pause and rewind features. Also, being able to start watching a program you've not even finished recording... how good is that! Here's the moment I realised it had the potential to 'change the way I live :o)': We had my mum round for tea last night and I was in the kitchen doing the cooking. She was watching Sky News and the headlines came on, one of them was of interest to both of us so she gave me a shout. Not realising I could just mosey on through and press the rewind button just after the relevant articale came on I dropped everything and ran through, plonked myself in the armchair and prepared to wait and wait and wait (who know's when the damn thing was going to come on - I could have wasted up to 20 minutes waiting for it). Then I realised the above. So I got up, continued preparing the meal and when the article came on I strolled into the living room, pressed rewind and viewed it. Simple! So that's 2 minutes of my life spent watching the article (with no stress about things boiling over in the kitchen) opposed to upto 20 minutes wasted of my life to watch a two minute article. I know I've gone on a bit explaining the obvious to you lot, but it's all new to me and I am still in the honeymoon period. Regards Sonars UK |

Why, pay an extortionate amount of money to Sky for the pleasure of course! Ollie Remove NOSPAM if replying by e-mail. |
" yep. so what can you so with sky+ that you cant do with a third party PVR?? Record a direct copy of the bitstream onto the hard drive - completely 'loss free' recording (though you could get stung if you cancel your sub and you haven't watched the recording). Considering it's 'free' to subscribers of two premium channels, it's pretty competitive. Obviously you don't get all the features of TiVO but then you don't have to pay the sub either. 10 quid per month generally is a bit OTT for it though. Gav Don't even bother mentioning the Tivo we are talking about the future not the past! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). You can change channels while recording for a start. Thats the biggest selling point for me. |

And the quality would not have been "a lot better" on the Sky+ The difference between broadcast and TiVo's "best quality" is negligible. Under some conditions, it's difficult to tell the difference. For example, you probably wouldn't notice the difference if you were blind or stupid. The majority of people would see a significant difference. |
