newie question
Our house has just had the sky £10 installation offer. Now we have the month
to decide which package we want. Am I correct in saying that if we choose the £38 pack we have to subscribe for a year? Wouldnt it make sense then for us to subscribe to the £15.50 basic pack for the year and then upgrade later as and when we wish? Also if I were to get an extra viewing box in the bedroom - any idea how much this costs? Both for installation and for rent? Do you need another phone line for thus box? Thanks all, Lee |

No. You will have to keep that package for a month, after which you may choose to downgrade. Also if I were to get an extra viewing box in the bedroom - any idea how much this costs? Both for installation and for rent? Do you need another phone line for thus box? The extra box costs £99. The installation will be £50. The extra subscription required will be £15 per month (this is the same regardless of what package you're on). However, if you have Sky+, the extra sub monthly fee will be dropped to £10/month. Both boxes will need to be permanently connected to the same phone line. This is so they can check that both boxes are being used in the same house, and that you haven't given the extra box/card to a mate. |

This may be a nasty Pace minibox. I would not want to get one of those. The extra subscription required will be £15 per month (this is the same regardless of what package you're on). Thanks for the replies, a couple more questions if you will.
1) Say I do go for the extra box in the bedroom, is there a connection from the main box to this one? we're talking 4 bed deeached, TV in front room to TV in upstairs back bedroom, thats a lot of cable, even coming off the dish direct would have to span the whole house. 2) Ive been reading a bit about this Sky+, will sky upgrade us automatically or is it an optional thing? What is the extra over cost for the upgrade bearing in mind we've only had sky installed for 2 weeks. Thanks again, Lee |

The second box needs a dedicated feed from the dish. This could go via the main box but normally it would be direct. Please be careful not to let Sky fob you off with a cheap Pace minibox. They aren't nice. See below. 2) Ive been reading a bit about this Sky+, will sky upgrade us automatically or is it an optional thing? What is the extra over cost for the upgrade bearing in mind we've only had sky installed for 2 weeks. You can get Sky+ if you request it. Cost is £199 plus somewhere between £1 and £75 for installation depending on your subscription level and whether you want a second box installed. If you are thinking of having Sky+ installed then your existing box becomes your second box, of course. The monthly fee of £10 is waived if you have a package over £30. There is another fee of £10 - £15 for a mirror sub if you want one. Otherwise your second box can be used just for the FTV channels for free and a TVlink can allow you to view the Sky+ in the bedroom (or wherever). Your minimum commitment is to have the £38 package for one month, and then to have any package (cheapest is £12.50) for the next 11 months. Wouldnt it make sense then for us to subscribe to the £15.50 basic pack for the year and then upgrade later as and when we wish? Possibly, but I think there's some rule saying that Sky cannot increase your package price in the first 12 months (or is it that they cannot increase it more than 10%?). Anyway, as soon as you change your package (e.g. from £38 Sky World to £18.50 Family Pack), then this rule no longer applies, and so any increases would then apply to you in full (e.g. Family Pack may be £21 in January 2004). -- Geoff Rimmer www.sillyfish.com www.sillyfish.com - Make savings on your BT and Telewest phone calls. |
