Europe may have no choice but to accept the inevitable - no terrestrial
broadcaster or cable provider can afford the overinflated prices demanded by
TPL, the only one big enough to pay the going rate is Sky. Even if, for
example, BBC and ITV put forward a shared bid, that would fall through over
such issues as who gets to show which matches. The other possible solution -
allowing each club to sell/market it's own matches - would be difficult to
produce even if every club was equally popular, but that isn't even the
reality.

Of course, an American-owned ITV might put up a better fight.
