Getting Sky+

Am getting sky plus and am new to all this, so hopefully someone out there
will be able to answer my questions.

1) When the Sky installer visits, will he be able to move my present Digi
Box so that I can use it to receive all the freeview channels in another
Room, and maybe at some point in time opt for the second subscription?

2) Is it possible to swap your viewing card between the Skyplus box and the
normal one if move? (see 3 if no)

3) I sometime take me box over to my parents house as they do not have the
full package and I like to watch the football when I'm there. Is this still
an option with skyplus?

Thanks

Stewart

No, you will need a viewing card in the old digibox to view ITV1, Channel 4
and five. This can either be a second subscription, an expired subscription
card or an FTV "Solus" card. You will not be given a new card when you
upgrade to Sky+.

2) Is it possible to swap your viewing card between the Skyplus box

You will not be able to receive the premium channels (Sky Sports, Sky
Movies) if you put your card in another digibox, but the other channels
should work fine.

It was never an option in the first place. See above. You will not be able
to watch Sky Sports if you put your viewing card in a different digibox.

Of course it's possible if he takes his Sky+ box with him (just using one of
the LNB inputs) but quite rightly not with his normal box.
I'm not sure if damage can be done not having the other LNB input unused
though I doubt it has having Sky installed 4 times now (and again twice on
moving) The *norm* here has been setting up box to TV/VCR and getting the
picture output on-screen and then setting the dish after!

Yes, but there is a charge for this. The charge may be greater if you
don't take the mirror sub.

Yes, but you won't get all channels and this will prevent your Sky+
from recording whilst the card is out. I think that I would take the
mirror sub now and that will get you a second card and a cheap
installation. AFAIK you can cancel the second sub within the first
year without penalty and then you will have the two cards that you
need to get the FTV channels on both boxes.

Yes. It will neither record nor play back though, unless they also
have a twin LNB fitted.

Oops.. My apologies. I thought you said you were taking your *card* and not
your *box*. If you take both the box and the card then you should have no
problems using them in a different location.

Can you retain the "old" digi box to keep or sell on at a latter date or
will the fitter take it away as a replacement has been installed?
Stuart.
