A source at Sky has mentioned to Sky Digi Online that Sky+ users will have
their £10 access fee dropped as from 1st October 2003. Also, Dual recording
will become a reality in Mid-August. Sky will also be launching three new
Sky+ boxes from October time, with a push towards Sky+ as the default
reciever in the maketplace in time for the Christmas sales. More on this as
we get it in the coming weeks.

True, that's usually what Sky are all about.
I wonder how much over inflation it will go up this time?

Last year I think it was about 17% on Family Pack and some packs were about
20%-ish!

I reckon 12%+

I'm hoping there computer mucks up, when I ordered sky+ with mirror, they
said no £10 for + (even tho I wasn't on full package) but when letter came
they wanted £59 instead of £48 and they said the computer would only accept
£59 if you wanted + as well, so I kicked up a fuss and got a £132 credit
(don't pay anything for 2.5 month)

So I'm hoping the computer drop's the £10 on the 1st October even though
I've had credit for the year ;o)

Pretty major development if like you say it's true, so major infact it
sounds like wishful thinking by someone with a ouiji board:)
Dual recording has been on the cards for the last year, hardware has
always been capable but it's required an OS addition to make it
workable. The Amstrad SKY+ might be making an appearance later
this year but not sure where the other two versions are coming from.
SKY+ as the default receiver in the market place, well there isn't a
marketplace for SKY hardware as such, you don't see all the current
models in your local Dixons and those you see in dealers and online
hardly have a realistic price tag. SKY+ as the entry level STB is a good
idea but probably too expensive to be in a subsidised install deal not
forgetting it would be a great way to **** off millions of current users
who suddenly become second class customers.

They seem to alternate the big increases between Family Pack one year,
and then Movies/Sport the following year.

So in January 2003, Family went from £16 to £18.50, but World went
only from £37 to £38.

My guess for January 2004 is Family to become £19, and World £40.

Of course, the more cynical amongst us will realise with the impending
cutting off of the solus cards that if you want to watch or record anything
from ITV/4/5 you will need to subscribe to the £12.50 per moth mimimum
package anyway! I was just saying to someone yesterday that I would gladly
have paid the £10 charge if all the current FTA channels were included along
with your choice of , say, 3 family pack channels. e.g. Sky One, Paramount
and UK Gold.
