Anybody called Sky and been put thru to India?

Hi group

I am new here and my first post is a rant !!

Just called up to have Sky installed at my new house and I was put through
to somebody in India !!

She could not understand a word I was saying and I eventually gave up and
went online to sign up.

Anybody else had this?

The scottish accent is hard enuff to understand (and no doubt my Lancashire
accent is to Scottish people) but INDIA !!

What is happenning?

Dave, Oldham.

A number of large UK companies with extensive call centre facilities are closing
them down and moving the operations to India, cheap labour and low cost
international call routing means there are big savings to be made.
No insult intended to the intelligent, competent and fluent English speaking
people in India working in call centres but I find the whole situation to be
disturbing, when even a job answering the phone is being exported thanks to
the so called global economy what hope is that for everything else in the UK.

When I phoned up to order the non-sub package for my Mum I got a Scottish
woman. She didn't sound like she was in India.

Hello!

Just thought I'd share our experience of the Bangladesh call-centre.

My wife called up to query a minor point on the account, and when she gave
the password she was told by the arrogant call-centre woman that the
password was not correct. She asked her what *my* password was (surely she
shouldn't have done this as my wife's not me, I was not in the house at the
time so could not give my authority. Breaking all sorts of data protection
rules) and when she gave her it (same as my wife's) she insisted it was also
incorrect and proceeded to ask her all the security details she had taken at
the start of the call (name, address, dob, phone number, account number -
more than enough information when giving once, but TWICE!?!) before asking
her if she wanted to change the password to the word she had given and
proceeded to spell the word in question.

Now, this word is quite a tricky one to spell becasue it's a Gaelic name.
The woman spelled and pronounced it letter-perfect - the only conceivable
way she could do this is if she was looking at it on the screen (especially
as she could barely speak English herself so is highly unlikely to speak
Gaelic!). It also doesn't look as though the account has been altered
according to my wife's instructions.

Doesn't exactly give us faith in Sky!

My wife was so angered by the whole experience she was physically shaking.
A large company such as Sky should not leave anyone in this state.

On a completely unrelated matter, when we first asked Sky to come and
install our dish (just over 2 years ago now) the engineer told us it was
"physically impossible" as he would have to stand on the roof of the
downstairs flat's extension which he was not insured to do. The roof in
question has a very slight slope, but he said a slope's a slope and he
wasn't prepared to endanger his life (I couldn't believe my ears).
Surprising, considering the people we bought the house from had their dish
installed about 6 months previously BY SKY in exactly the same place.
Eventually, we got a local guy to come and do it and he did a damn fine job.

SKY introduced new Health & Safety codes or enforced existing ones, not quite
sure which.
Before they came into play an installer was insured to do roof work or very high
work, after the new rules came into force they were not insured to do that sort
of work. Faced with the prospect of being seriously injured and not getting any
compensation from SKY and perhaps even getting fired for breaking the rules
who can blame them for refusing to do some jobs.
The installer who came to install my SKY+ said exactly the same thing even
though it was a SKY installer who originally put the minidish in that location.
I cancelled the install, got a refund and went to an independent for installation
which was cheaper than SKY as well :)
