pretty much the same ???

Which is the one to go for , which one is winning all the awards at a price
of around £2000 (42 inch)

I wouldn't get too excited about any awards. They are handed out by the
home electronics media to the home electronics trade which supports
them. Better to refer to Which? which advises against buying either LCD
or plasma since their tests showed that neither is yet ready for prime
time in terms of the viewing experience.

My own research satisfied me that the Panny Vieras gave the best
picture available in both categories, although still seriously flawed
by posterisation, haloing, colour spread, artefacts, etc. And that LCD
was much worse than plasma.

Stan , Thank you for those words of wisdom , when ppl ask me about
plasmas/lcds , i normally say , buy a nice 32 inch tv for around 400-600 and
spend the rest on a nice video projector to truly give you the best of both
worlds....plus make a saving based on most 42 inch plasmas costing more than
1300 upwards.

IMHO

Funny, I am leaning in a similar direction.
I already have a 36" CRT which I am happy with but wanted something bigger for
films, whilst my wife wanted something less obtrusive than a 36" crt, not in
terms of screen size, but floor space that it occupies. A Plasma seemed obvious
answer.

However, seems that I can get a decent projector much less than a plasma/lcd,
AND get a much bigger picture to boot. I would only use the projector for
films - and perhaps sports on Sky, so viewing would mainly be at night. (no
doubt the kids would want to play some games via the projector too - Doom 3 at
100" sounds good). And keep the 36" CRT for "normal" viewing. Doesn't solve the
36" floor space problem though....
