Gunther Gloop put on the robe and wizard hat...and talked like a pirate
I got my iRiver iHP120 today. Nice it is too. :) I'm still getting to grips with the software/firmware (do I really need to scroll all the way A - Z after selecting by artist/ album/ genre/ etc.? -Lots of scrolling when 3000 songs!) Indeed. This is the thing that ****s me off about my ipod. Ok its fine for albums, and I like being able to browse by artist but there are a lot of singles and odd single tunes I have on there which is annoying as I don't want to scroll past artists with one or two tracks associated with them. I wish there was a way to hide tunes from view, which are only viewable fvia the pc software and playlists.. portable speakers? so you dont want to jsut connect it to your home stereo then? sorry.. havent bought any of them for years.. |

It's like they approached it from a whole different viewpoint than I would have (probably just copying Apple). Also it's not very intuitive, in that you need to _remember_ what particular controls do at what times rather than instinctively know. And you could use the thing for years without realising theres an FM radio on it unless you read how to get it on. Still, it's my favouritest gadget ever and I can't see myself being without it at any time in the foreseeable. :) portable speakers? so you dont want to jsut connect it to your home stereo then? Yeah I'll be connecting it to the stereo, but I was thinking "other locations" inside and outside the house. There's bound to be good enough 'computer speakers' available but I'd rather get battery-enable ones if poss.. -Kevin. -- Reply to: |

Anyway, I was thinking it'd be nice to be able to play songs "out loud" at certain times. A pair of small powered speakers should do the job, although preferably ones that allowed batteries as well as mains. Do these exist at an acceptable price/performance level? ...By 'acceptable price' here I'm thinking around 20quid. :) Obviously performance is not a _major_ concern -just being able to _hear_ the stuff without a lot of buzzing would be fine. -Kevin. I've been looking too and the best I've found so far are he http://www.avland.co.uk/speaker/personal.htm#personal GAry. |
Find a set of powered speakers with a external power supply (so the main
unit has a 18v input jack) I've found that the ones with the PSU in the main unit hum loudly (at least four sets of PC speakers that I've used) |

I've been looking too and the best I've found so far are he http://www.avland.co.uk/speaker/personal.htm#personal It says "AC power supply optional" on the £20 pair but by that I'd guess it means "optional if you want powered amp" rather than "or use batteries". These ones on the same site look possibly more up my street... http://www.avland.co.uk/sony/srspc37/index.htm "2-way supply: by AA-sized batteries (not supplied) or AC adaptor (not surpplied)" Thanks Gary. Chimp doesn't allow Irish people (in Ireland) buy from his site last I looked so I won't be buying from there, but at least now I know they *exist*. :) -Kevin. -- Reply to: |
