directly to projector or through receiver?
I have recently bought a BenQ PB6100 projector and an Onkyo HT-S760 home
theatre system. I have a cable box that uses S-video, a old VCR that will only use composite video and a progressive scan DVD player that uses component video. Should I: 1) connect all three devices, (using the video switching capabilities) to the Onkyo receiver and run one video cable to the projector (using the projector's VGA/HD15 port)? Will I loose any video quality? Will this work? or: 2) Run all three devices directly to the projector (composite, S-video and component)??? The projector has auto-source detection... Will I get a big jump in video quality doing it this way? What should I do? Cory |
I would try number 1 first, and then determine if the switching capabilities
includes format conversion. You may only be able to switch inputs and not convert them all to VGA. In that case you will end up running composite, and S-video as well as component or RGB to the projector. The switching shouldn't impact the image in a noticeable way, plus you will not have to power down the devices not being used in order to switch. (That way you could still record something while watching something else.) You will have to switch anyway for the audio, better to have to only switch once. hook them up both ways and see if you can tell the difference. i bet you
cannot. when you cannot, hook it up the way which makes it easiest to control. i.e. lessens the amount of remote control button pushes required to do things. if all else is equal runn it straight to the projector. randy "Cory Lechner" wrote in message ...
