Arcam P7 & P8..... WOW!!!

after much contemplation ive just bought and installed these two
brutes at home - WOW!

Of course i had auditioned them at my local shop with the same kit as
i have at home, but now they are mine they sound that much better!

Sure they are expensive but worth every penny. The sound has a
massive depth to it and just seems to be much more realistic than my
older Denon. I know they are in different leagues but it REALLY is a
massive difference.

Also audioned the TAG kit. sounded too clinical for me, somehow the
Arcam seemed warmer and "nicer".

just my two penneth - Thanks Arcam...

Hmmmmm. When I auditioned the pair at my local dealer's against the
Denon A1, the really obvious thing that I noticed was an increase in top
end hardness. Use an analogue input and everything was fine - use a DVD
that used 5.1 or Prologic 2 was used to tweak the sound and the hard
sting came back to the top end. My wife who was with me noticed exactly
the same issue, so I know that it wasn't just me. I suppose it's
possible that the interconnects in use could have played a part, but I
doubt given the obvious digital verses analogue difference. I found the
Denon to have a very 'British' sound, very similar to my existing Denon
A10, with no hint of the hard/aggressive top end.

I'm waiting to re-test both amps. when they both support Prologic 2x.
For the Arcam a firmware upgrade is all that's needed, AFAICT, but the
Denon is being re-worked into the AVC-A1SRA-N, from what I can work-out
from Denon's Japanese website.

There's a lot to commend the Arcam kit and it may be that Arcam are
aware of the issue - I certainly emailed them with my experiences. Let's
see what the 2x upgrade brings .....
