Surround Sound Connections

I've just purchased the Sony HT-K250 Home Cinema System but i am
confused as to the correct connections to make with my DVD player and
TV. The sony amplifier comes with an 'Optical' input, but my DVD
player has no opical output instead i've used the coaxial 'Aux'
connection and standard analog jack connections from the tv to the
amp. In this configuration selecting DVD on the amp doesn't work, but
i can listen to sound produced by the tv but with the left and woofer
speakers only. Any ideas

surely just connect the scart from the dvd player into the tv for video
playback. Surely your dvd player has at least a digital coaxial output
? THe sony has a dig coax input, use this for the sound

Don't bother connecting the tv to the amp

Er.... He's going to need to connect the TV to the amp to get surround
from telly broadcasts?!?

But if the OP only no optical out from his DVD player - probably easiest
to buy another DVD player mate!
