Are you handy with a soldering iron?
If you can solder components to a circuit-board, then you might want to try this...

Heard bad things about them and they SPAM.

Quite right! It isn't there no more :-(

I have searched the internet (very quickly) and came across this Canadian site:

(This is identical to the product I have. It is both NTSC and PAL compatible)

The product definitely does exist. Perhaps a more thorough search of the internet can find a
reliable supplier in the UK.

If you find a source or a URL, perhaps you can be kind enough to post it here.
