Purchasing a Plasma Screen Questions
Ok, I have talked the missus round to getting a Plasma this weekend, so I as
long as the bank say "Yes Mr. Internet, we want you take consolidate your existing lending at a lower interest rate" then I am on... Anyhoo, been looking at Richer at the Tosh and the Panny, and seems as there is only a couple of hundred quid in it and I want one with a stand mount anyway, I think the Panny is getting the cash should it be in stock locally. The model number is TH42PW5B, so can someone tell me if this is the best way to plough £2500 into a Plasma or am I missing a trick? Also, a few questions I have are as follows... At the moment I have a DVD Player direct into AV2 on my TV and an auto switching scart box on AV1 for my Sky Box, VCR and XBOX. I also have a Denon 1803. The question is how am I going to wire this all up without Scart sockets? However, to make this a bit easier, the 1803 does not have any video cables in or out at the moment, only optical and coaxial cables. I think I can probably get a scart to S-Video cable from the switcher box to the plasma and probably upgrade my DV-350 to that Cambridge Audio PAL Prog Scan and DVD-A player in Richer for £200 and another £100 for the IXOS component cable, so with the supercare I should be able to get them to do the lot for £3000. Finally, am I doing the right thing anyway, or should I wait and see if I may be able to save some additional cash by waiting for January? TBH, unless it was about 10% of the overall cost, I don't think I would really care that much. Bob --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I wouldn't buy a plasma from RS. The model number is TH42PW5B, so can someone tell me if this is the best way to plough £2500 into a Plasma or am I missing a trick? Thats an old model & one with a few issues such as flicker etc. I just bought the Panasonic TH37PA20B for £2700 & the connectivity is much better than a stanrd panel. It has 3 scart sockets, a prog scan component input & everything else you need including an onboard tuner. Also, a few questions I have are as follows... Might as well buy a newer model for less money! Finally, am I doing the right thing anyway, or should I wait and see if I may be able to save some additional cash by waiting for January? TBH, unless it was about 10% of the overall cost, I don't think I would really care that much. Bob No chance of saving, buy one now mate. |
I've been looking around for similar and you can get the 6 series panasonic
for this money. Try here http://www.nexnix.co.uk It's still saying £2150 + VAT for the TH42PWD6 but they said it was going up to £2220 + VAT but still better value than a 5 series for £2500 from RS. Nige,
I'm a bit concerned about screen burn from those channel logos, have you noticed anything with the new Panasonic? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.551 / Virus Database: 343 - Release Date: 11/12/2003 |
"Barry" wrote in message ... Nige, I'm a bit concerned about screen burn from those channel logos, have you noticed anything with the new Panasonic? It's bull**** if you take a few precautions such as lower the (too high anyway) contrast & don't leave it on one channel for ages. I have had a 3 plasma's now & NEVER got any burn at all, even with cbeebies (one of the worst) on for four hours+ Go to avforums & read up on the screen burn thing. You'll find you have to be retarded to shag a plasma with screen burn & in that case you shouldn't have one anyway!!! ;~) Nige |
OK, I am being a bit of a cheapskate, but can I have some opinions on this
please? http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...-PM4230&clear= Seems a bit too cheap to me, but I don't need speakers or a tuner... Bob |

You get what you pay for. Don't spend £2k without seeing it beside a Panasonic or Pioneer first. If you don't need speakers or tuner, take a look at the Panasonic v6. The extra £500 will be well spent. Terry |
Cheers for the reply, where did you pick that Panny up from and how much more is the 42"? What sort of extended cover did they offer on it? Will I see it before xmas is the biggie.... You can get a 42" Panasonic for the same money from a number of suppliers (check out www.avforums.com). I ordered mine from nexnix at 3:30 and it arrived at 10 the next morning. Sween |

please? http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...-PM4230&clear= OK, I know its bad form to reply to your own post, but I have started to look into this a bit more and have a few more links. 18 Mb PDF File: http://tinyurl.com/zcsf Other Specs: http://tinyurl.com/zcr9 The spec looks OK, it does everything I want and the best price I have found is £1821 + £60 next day delivery at just projectors, or £1891 + £99 delivery with a free European flight at empire. Either way, it is about a grand less than the equivalent Panasonic model I was intent on getting. The only things that puts me off is that the company is a subsidiary of Orion (which says a bit about the ASDA of it all) and I have not found one online review. If I am ordering, it has to be Wednesday... Bob |

For slightly more you could have a PW 6 with 3m scart lead, wall mount, switcher box and scart plug in for plasma. As has already been said the 5 had problems and I would steer clear. you could dump the switcher box and go for component in via your dvd wit, progressive scan. There are others the pio 433 and hitachi that are good but imho not as good as the panny, but if you intend to spend this sort of monies you should invest in the time to see them all. |

You been shown a 6 series Panny for some £1K less than I paid for my 5 series a year ago - go get it! Nexnix are a good company and helpful - they are based in Sussex I think, and have a showroom full of competition plasmas. It is there that you'll see that your cheapskate question is embarrassing! Having said that mines got the integrated tuner & speakers etc. The 06 series has better contrast, but not massively. The one I have has great connectivity & looks superb too. Nige |
