I didn't realize that my inquiry might not be appropriate in this group. I
also didn't realize that there are some other groups I could pose my question
in -- thanks for pointing them out. My thinking in posting my question in this
group was that since the DMT-1000 is slaved off of my Monterey 55 IRD that
perhaps some other TVRO user might have had the same experience I have had.

This group seems to mainly talk about Analog C/Ku TVRO and there are some
people who get off on yelling at you for posting off topic. I suggest
going to www.satforums.com You will most likely find someone there who has
a solution for this problem.

My DMT-1000 receiver puts out a 16:9 screen format picture regardless of

what
screen format (4:3 or 16:9) I select on the receiver's System Setting Page

in
the Menu. This is noticeable by the vertical squeeze imparted on all

channels
when input into a Philips DVD 985 recorder (set to either 4:3 Pan & Scan

or 4:3
Letterbox picture modes) and viewed on a conventional 4:3 monitor. I

cannot
get a full screen 4:3 screen format picture from the receiver. On the
otherhand, when I input the same signal from the receiver into a VCR I do

see a
full screen 4:3 screen format picture (although the red "Wide" indicator

is lit
on my Panasonic AG-1980 VCR). Any thoughts/ideas about this (and how to
correct it) are most appreciated.

I have found that the satforums.com site is much more helpful for DVB
related questions. Not that this group is against it but it has alot more
DVB users.

There's also a group called something like "alt.video.satellite.mpeg2-dvb", but
not very many people visit it.

I used to have a working DMT-1000 (power supply board fried itself), but never
had that problem.

Anyone who insinuates that anything related to BUD might be off topic in
this group is off base. This is the only Big 8 group covering BUD, which
includes standard DVB issues. There is a DVB-MPEG-specific group, but it
is not Big 8.
