"searching for satellite" message?????

I use Direct TV and have an RCA model DRD480RE receiver. Starting
about 3 months ago when accessing channels through the "menu"
function, I started getting the "searching....please stand by"
message. It will eventually lock on to the signal after 3 to 5
seconds. I don't think it's an antenna issue as my other receiver
does not do this (both on same dish).

When advancing from one channel to the next it doesn't seem to do
this...only when accessing channels through the "menu" function.

Any ideas???????????????

Check the signal meter under System Setup / Dish Pointing. You should
be getting a reading in the 80's or better on most transponders.
(NOTE: transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26 and 28 spot beams and will
normally be higher or lower depending on your location.)

Although the picture will look the same whether you have a reading of
40 or 95, when the reading is low it does take longer to lock onto a
channel. Or at least my RCA430 receiver does take longer when it is
raining heavily, but not so heavy as to block the signal altogether.
