DirecTV drops Americana channel

I went to tune in channel 827, Music Choice Americana, last night
and was stunned to find it missing. I called DTV and was told
that Americana was dropped in favor of Disney Radio.

Man, that chaps my rear-end. Damn children are taking the
fun away from being an adult. Everything in our culture
has to be dumbed down to "save the children!". Forget the
children, they're the future. My time is now! I want my
Americana back.

If there's any fans of music by Wilco, Lucinda Williams,
Steve Earle, etc... out there, please let DirecTV know
that this stations is missed.

Thanks for reading my whine,

Effective yesterday, July 7, Music Choice changed its channel lineup for all
customers, cable and satellite alike. The changes were not optional.

It wasn't DirecTV that dropped the channel, it was Music
Choice. Here is the news story on the changes (notice that
Americana is NOT mentioned, just that Music Choice is
"changing its channel line up in response to music industry
trends, market research and customer feedback"), MUSIC
CHOICE Updates Its Broadcasted Music Channels:

My suggestion is to get Sirius satellite radio. They have a channel called
"Folktown" which leans heavily in the this direction.

Of course I'm still upset that DTV dropped their original children's
music choice channel over a year and a half ago.

They do seem to be homogenizing their music programming again.
Pretty soon they will be as crappy as clear channel.

Luckily, there is a commercial station in town that plays this
type of music but I've thought about satellite. I just don't
want the additional monthly fee.

Yeah, I read that press release. Then I went to the FAQ page
where they mention specific channel changes but no reference
to Americana.

I never thought I would be a fan of "folk music" but this
type of music "rocks" for me. Folk makes you think of
The Kingston Trio, not someone like Steve Earle. The
current "rock" and "alternative" music I hear on the
radio leaves me cold. Seems like "folk" is today's alternative.

Hmmm. I thought the whole idea of paid satellite radio was
so you'd have the ability to go against "music industry
trends"! If I wanted trendiness, I'd listen to OTA.

I'm not certain that Ms. Campbell is still at DirecTV but
Mr. Del Beccaro is the true villian here.

Yeah, I got an e-mail from DirecTV that said it was Music Choice
that killed americana. Thanks for that address. Great points
in your letter as well. I'll work up a letter tonight.

So are you suggesting DTV remove all programming aimed at kids? I
understand the point you're trying to make, but that statement would
imply that your including all of the kid's TV channels too.

Basically what you appear to be saying is that childrens programming
should be removed in favor of programming aimed toward the adult
demographic. I don't think that argument will be taken very
seriously.
