Will my Second Receiver work at my friends house?

I have transfered my account to a new receiver 301 and asked
dishnetwork people to deactivate my old receiver.

After they confirmed that the old receiver is not active anymore I
tried it and to my surprise I found that it is still active, so I
called dishnetwork again and they reconfirmed that the old receiver is
no longer on my account.

So my questions a

1. Will my old reciever work at my friends house? My firend has a dish
that is compatable with my old reviever "Legacy system"

2. Can dishnetwork find out that the second dish is at my friends
house?

3. Is it illegal to give the second activated receiver to my friend to
use it for free since I am paying for the service?

Thanks

They never confirmed then.

Probably.

2. Can dishnetwork find out that the second dish is at my friends

Probably not.

It's not criminal, but does probably violate your subscriber
agreement, and probably copyright laws.

Don't be surprised if it stops working suddenly. These things have a way of
working themselves out :)

Dish will send out the "disconnect" notice periodically. If the receiver is
connected to the dish and powered up, it will receive it. At that time you
will receive the barker channels and things like NASA.

Are you sure NASA will still come in without a current sub ?

Just wondering if there is any site/source that lists the actual channels
that are available, sort of FTA ???

I don't think so, but http://www.lyngsat.com lists ACTUAL FTA
channels.

Absolutely. I speak from experience on this one. Last year we cancelled
our E* service, leaving our 7200 hooked up for the time being. As I stated,
we received the NASA channel and the barker channels. There might have been
one or two others we were also getting, I don't remember.

A previously subbed dishnet receiver wil receive the barker channels,
NASA and Angel religious channels.

But what about DirecTV? I thought the only channels you could get
without a subscription were the DirecTV channels, like PPV previews?

After this thread began I connected an old Sony SAT A3 receiver with
a deactivated access card to the satellite cable. The only channels that could
be viewed were barker channels. No NASA, EWTN, RFD, BYU or any channel
with desirable programming could be viewed. On channels other than barker channels
a black screen is shown with the message to call customer service, ext. xxx
at the bottom.
