DirecTV will add HD for $399, but THEY PICK THE RECEIVER!
Should I worry about this or just take them up on the deal? $399 is
200-300 less than buying at the store, including the swapout dish. I'd rather spend more and get something better or more useful, but I am not really sure that of various HD DirecTV recievers, there is a great deal of difference. Can anyone clearly say that this or that brand or unit absolutely, no way would they have it, or conversely, that such and such a unit is by far the best and should be the one I get? Thanks for the help. Mike |

Thanks for the help. Mike FWIW - DishNetwork charged my $150 for a new HD 811 receiver, installed. I keep my old 4900 receiver and there is no dish change. I pay an additional $10 per month for the four HD channels they offer at this time. My four local stations, that broadcast HD signals, I receive via a small separate antenna. Charles |

The DISH HD deal was much cheaper than DirecTV. I pay an extra $9 or so per month for a second receiver. The second receiver does HD. Regards, Robert This is what I did too - $150 for a new Dishnet 811 HDTV receiver with free installation. $5 a month for the 2nd receiver and $10 a month for HDTV channels (DiscoveryHD, ESPNHD, HDNet, HDNetMovies). $400 seems like a lot, but I guess that is because DirecTV isn't making their own receivers so they are stuck paying the manufacturers.
