DirecTivo Green Screen

Hi,
I have a Hughes DirecTivo unit, it's about 10 months old. In the last two
months or so, we've been periodically getting a "green screen of death",
stating that "A Severe Error Has Occurred." It instructs to leave the Tivo
on, as it will attempt to fix itself. It always does fix itself, sometimes
after a couple spontaneous reboots, sometimes after 12-18 hours or so.
Speaking with DirecTV about this, all they can say is "it's probably a
failing drive." That's fine. But the thing that offers doubt in my mind
about this is that the "Severe Error" screen only shows up when watching the
recorded part of a currently live show. That is, Show X is on from 8-9 pm.
At 8:30, I begin watching the recorded portion of it. At 9:00, roughly
halfway through my viewing, I get the error. (The machine "pauses", then
reboots to a Green Screen) Is there a known bug in the software that would
cause this? A Google search only rounded up hardware issues, and if that's
the problem, so be it. But I'm wondering if anyone else has this specific
issue? I believe the software version is 3.1.1c, although it may have
upgraded itself to version d recently, as I've noticed the new network
logos.

Any thoughts?
