TiVo to Go and portables
I am interested in buying a portable media player for use now with MP3s and
later for programs captured by TiVo and transfered to my computer via TiVo To Go. Does anyone know if this will be possible? Regardless, am I better off buying a Microsoft Portable Media Center, a linux device, or something else? (In other words, which is most likely to suppoer the ability to transfer from a PC in the future, even if the answer isn't yet definitive?) Many thanks in advance, Erik |
I can't speak for the Microsoft product-other than reading the usual
negative things that MS likes to do to limit consumer's abilities and uses. But I have the Archos AV320-upgraded to an 80 gig drive and I couldn't rave about it any more. I bought the camera attachment for it-but mainly, I LOVE dumping stuff from DVD and (at one time when my Tivo was breathing) Tivo to it and watching the shows on planes, travelling, etc. YOu can even edit out commercials or other stuff you don't want in the videos you have. And this is when I really appreciated it-I recently flew to Belgium-a 6-8 hour flight and on the way there I watched Austin Powers Goldmember, Goodfellas, 2 episodes of Bernie Mac and listened to 4 hours' worth of Howard Stern radio show (which I also recorded from the radio using the Archos). On the way back I watched Office Space, Big Lebowski, 2 episodes of Ali G and listened to the Loveling radio show for 2 hours after the basttery became too low to display video. Meanwhile, the rest of the losers on the plane were forced to choose from a bad Kate Hudson movie, latest Harry Potter, the Stepford Wives remake and some crappy Denzel Washington movie. Here they are, staring at the back of the seat in front of them like a zombie, watching bad movies, and i'm laughing my ass off, watching exactly what I want to see. I highly reccommend the unit. |
