New software for first gen DirecTV DVR
I read on Tivocommunity forums that software v 3.1.0c...
will begin downloading to "first generation" DirecTV DVR users in the next few days. This should fix the issue with the erroneous program guide data warning. Hopefully the problem with losing Favorite channels setting will also be corrected. This should also end the speculation that only "next generation" DirecTV DVRs will receive software updates. |

On the other hand the nature of this upgrade (bug fixes only) seems to suggest that first generation DirecTV DVRs won't be seeing any new features. -- script language="JavaScript"// Scott Seligman for(var i=0;i73;i++)document.write(String.fromCharCode((" lsYrsiwb7pir~~|=~fr"+ (i)-("P2Y*!$1E5#()2*-"+ (i)+32));/script |

What "new features" have appeared on "next generation" DVRs? I know about USB ports that haven't been enabled. There hasn't been an announcement from DirecTV that the USB ports will be enabled. A significant addition to the feature set for DirecTV DVRs may require a "third generation" DVR. The performance difference between a first and next generation DVR isn't apparent. The "next generation" DirecTV DVR has a bug that has not been fixed. |

I've had some problems since this upgrade that might be bugs in the new software - behaviour certainly seems to have changed since I got it, without other changes in my setup within the past few days. Prior to this, the main change was that I'd pulled out my TV stand to reroute cables a couple of days ago, but things were fine after I was done with that and before the new software came in. I got this upgrade in the early morning of July 1st, which I noticed because I had to reset my 30-second skip and Now Playing list sort codes. Overnight, I had a recording fail - the program was in Now Playing and had the right length, but trying to play it just showed me the green movie reel in the background, and fast-forward took me through the whole thing in a few seconds. I've since had suggestions record and act the same way, and watching live, I've had problems - it's very slow to tune a new channel, sometimes playing the audio without a picture, and sometimes showing a frozen picture. I've swapped satellite cables, and the problem stayed with Satellite In 1. When I tried checking signal strength, my signal was greater on the input showing problems. I had almost diagnosed it as a problem with tuner #1, but something made me try a reboot - after that, the problem moved to Satellite In 2 for awhile and then disappeared entirely. What it seemed was that it was a problem on the second tuner I looked at; the fact that it didn't move with a cable swap but did after a reboot makes me think it's not hardware. Maybe the problem is gone for more than awhile, but I don't know. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. And oh, I do see that the program guide data warning is gone now. At least it's fixed something.
